going away for a few days and wanted to make sure my tank would be fine while im away

yes i know im currently cleaning the room :D

 I could do with that set up to watch the kids too.

Looks tidy compared to my house! So many better things to do than clean...

Seems a bit long winded! Suppose it gets the job done though :D

I think I would just use an IP camera (or IP camera software for a webcam if i didnt have an IP camera) then publish the page to the internet via IIS.

Then you can just browse to the web-page from anywhere.

quite easy to do star :D

First up you need to spend the £200 or so on the xbox and then £120 or so on the Kinect... ;)

Assuming that you've already got the equipment, why not! free solution always the best!

I'm with Malt Vinegar though and would have an IP camera. Of course, most IP cameras (unless you pay a fortune) require a direct connection lan cable as they aren't wireless. In many cases this wouldn't be feasable as the router is normally quite a way from the tank. Certainly mine is!

Although, one would assume that you could use an application on the PC that would display the output from a standard USB connected webcam (there are free ones out there, or Skype when it's working...) and then either logmein or use another Skype acount and dial in. :) This does assume that the PC is near the tank though.

seems you missed the point i have a tank under another so without spending on a robot camera i used an xbox kinect (which i didnt buy for this purpose) and also where did the xbox get used? because mine isnt even switched on

Ok, I made a couple of assumptions - 1 that the kinect Had to connect via the xbox, 2 that star doesn't have any of the gear and 3 that you only had one tank. Iwas watching the vid on a small screen and didn't see the second tank.

You must have also missed the smiley after the "free is good" statement.

Oh, and I know nothing about the Kinect as I have PS3 not an x ox, so I apologise for participating in this thread, obviously it was the wrong thing to do.

no problem the kinect is being run from my pc hence the capture software running it
