Hi all, I've posted eairler on this topic and ive finally decided what direction I want to go with my tank. For those of you that dont know I have a hexagon 35 gallon and I am looking to start up with some tropical fish again. Im deciding between Red Rainbow and Tail shark, with a yoyo loach maybe, and between clown and tiger barb. I wanted to school the barbs but still dont know which kind to get. I also wanted to throw a bristlenose pleco in there since they only reach about 5 inches as opposed to their counter parts. Angels probably wouldnt be good with this mix but if you think otherwise please let me know. Also if you could help me out with some decor or subsatrate to put in I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks everyone! :good:

Don't forget the tanks only a 35 gallons not that big when it comes to some fish types.
Sharks are out of the question they need at least 40 gallons.
Tiger barbs are aggressive so need to stock with fish that can handle themselves.
Barbs are fin nippers so angels could be a problem.

Thanks for the input wilder ....red tail sharks only reach around 5 inches and red rainbows only reach around 6 inches...these would be ok i would just pick out of the two and limit other fish....angels would probably be a problem as you said so if i eliminated them, would you say the rest of the tank would be successful?

You can only add one shark as they don't get on with there own kind the red tailed shark and the red finned shark.
Tiger barbs attack fish with long flowing fins so there out of the question.

with the yoyo loaches is it quite important to keep them in groups of three to be able to see their true personalities. also this size tank may be ok for a while but due to the fact that they are very active fish, a tank betwen 4-6' is eventually needed.

tiger barbs are awful fishies for a community tank and i believe they are best kept in a species tank with a hige number of them to sort out agressiveness.

this is what i would do. sand substrate (this is important for any bottom dwellers). a few angels that would fill the upper regions of the tank and then maybe a shoal of about 5-6 of the smaller tetras who will swim a bit more middle to bottom. then your bn plec. other ideas for cool bottom feeders are kuhli loaches and corydoras.

hope that helps

hey thanks a lot for your response, it hels a lot. my question is for the yoyo loaches. I thoguth they would do alright in my tank since they seemed to be bottom dwellers and dont grow that large. do you have any specific recommendations for the middle dwelling tetras? I want something that will be a decent size and will also add some action to the tank if i were to have angels and bn plecs in the tank. thanks again!
