I have 2 LARGE Goldfish in a 48 gallon tank. One is white and orange and has long flowing white fins. In the last several days I've noticed he has red or orange streaks going down the length of the bottom of his tail.
He and his buddy chase each other around alot and then I've also changed their food in the last several weeks ... I don't know what could cause this?? He eats real good and is active but I want to stop something is it's starting up.
Anyone with any info please pass it along. Thanks in advance!

Yes by golly it looks just like him. His buddy has a short tail is well on the way to being 22 inches... if not there already.
The ammonia is 0. I have an indicator in there but double checked it with a strip tester.
How about injury? I keep some hiding spots for the plec and am wondering if he bumped himself against something in chasing around with his friend.

Not injury, but infact septicemia is a bacteria that infects the blood vessels. It will eventually reach the fishes inner organs and possibly kill him. So treat with a bacterial medication and this should help.

Does his buddy look like a Common Goldfish?

Yes medications such as Maracyn-Two by Mardel OR Furan-2 by API. I used Furan-2 by API to treat my pleco when he had septicemia and it worked.

I did have some and started them at about half recommended 1st dose as that's all I have on hand but will run out tomorrow morning and get another box... !!
PS I threw a partial cover over the tank so the kitten doesn't bug them.

Sounds good, glad you could get them started quickly!

Best of luck!!

Yup Big Freddie IS indeed a Common Goldfish and Pete is the Comet. Thanks for clearing up that matter for me too.
I initially got them as rescues from the LFS as they were feeders and I wanted a pet for my cat who was younger then. The new kitten I have now finds them very fascinating.
I dosed them today and am hoping for the best. I'm pretty attached to them. Thanks for your help!!
