Giant African Oddball Tank

or maybe he should get the tank set up and cycling then start the resurch a tank that size will give him 1 month to cycle in which time he can sort out which fish to get

the way i do things is set the tank up then think about what to stock it with not think about stocking a tank that is 2yrs away the stocking idears will change so much between now and then whats the point

whats with the angry tone T1? as pointed out above, surely he is doing well planning it before he does it.

And with regard to your comment about A levels, i know whih one i would rather have, and maybee the reason you are making nasty comments about Matts plan for studying, is because you have no A levels yourself.

Just because you do something one way doesn't mean that everyone else has to do it that way also.

He also may not be cycling. If he is cloning or expanding a current tank, he will need to stock straight away (obviously lightly) so that doesn't give him his one month planning.

Additionally, if he is on a limited budget to start with then he may need to save and therefore planning is essential. Far better to plan ahead and take into consideration a potential problem rather than that problem bite you on the backside and you not have the funds or the means to fix it.

Anyway, Matt, best of luck with the tank whether you build it now, next week, next year or never.

Yeah i do that all the time i buy houses then i do some research on the kind of people i want in and out of my house. Why not get ideas with the kind of fish hes interested in. Who know maybe someone on here will change his mind so he can adequately plan the tank and parameters needed for any specific fish he may or may not want.

no threts their its a fact of life you can have as many A levels as you want but if you dont know the right people they mean nothing FACT

You get to know the right people with all the A levels he plans on getting, the right people just fall into place.

get the tank set up then start the thread then you wont be wasteing peoples time

Despite the above, you still respond a further 5 times. Surely you are chosing to waste your own time, rather than the thread wasting it for you. What does it matter to you if someone plans a tank as a mental folly?

I am all for the OP planning a tank from a long way out, it prevents those "If only I had done x at the start rather than now" moments.

Obviously I also hope that the OP changes the stocking completely between now and building it and moves over to SW for a better fish selection :D However, by having an evolving fish selection the OP will end up with a better tank. I still recall CFC mentioning that once he got his 200 gallon tank he made the mistake of getting a lot of fish purely because they would fit and he wanted them but in the long term they were of less interest.

Hey mate sounds good , is the tank going to be 8ft X 3ft X 2.5 ft in 12mm ?? Coz thats the exact size tank i was after !! I got a few quotes , my cheapest was £549 for just the tank. What are you planning for filtration?

wow £549 on a school boy budget now i can see why its going to take years for him to set it up

A bit judgmental.

During the summer he could easily be earning £200 a week for all you know so it's not exactly unfeasible.

Good heavens he's talking about fish on a fish forum how ridiculous.

Thanks guys. :)

Honestly, I've liked most african fish for years and always wanted a large african tank - that's never going to change.

I was just trying to find a nice stocking, and then figuring out a rough estimate of how much the fish would cost. Obviously, the prices would have fluctuated in a few years... so no need to point that out to me.

Stick with it and dont take flak from some asshole who is a true believer of buy a tank first then decide what fish you want, and the ever famous education doesnt matter you just got to know "people"

Hahaha, of course! Who needs school?!

I know lots of people, that doesnt denote that fact that im still not making tons of money. I dont have any degrees im in school and know lots of people. People dont give a flying ####. Funny thing is im sure most people on here would be kind enough to give suggestions for a tank 10 years in the making. Its really not very taxing unless you religiously try and one up a 16 year old. Nice move Buddy.

I planned a tank 7 months in advance and it was only a 20g, big deal, i was doing lots of research about the different fish, filters, cycling etc. In the end i had a succesfull tank. This could easily take 2yrs to plan, you have got to think about the plumbing invloved, where will the water drain etc.

He never said that he was paying for it, you just assumed he did.

TBH, i think you are a jealous ;)

Good luck Esfa :)
