George,

I'll be sorry to see this scape go ... it's been a great learning experience for us all (and I'm sure for you), but looking forward to seeing the new tank & journal.

Any chance you could give us an update/recap on how you photographed the tank, any hints n tips you've learned ...... I'm particularly impressed with the lighting of the tank for these shots.

Cheers
Al

Sad for it to go but so long as the final look was accomplishment then thats super.
Look very much forward to the next scape.

I've also ordered ADA Bright Sand as I'm trying out a new style (for me) of 'scaping.

Where did you order the bright sand? Ive been wanting some for my pfk nano. aquaessentials have sold out and will have it in stock at the end of January :( I dont want to wait that long but if i must then i shall ;)

Its been a nice tank, but having finally got a proper scape in my nano, I am already planning the next one! So know how you feel about trying something new. And it sounds like life might be getting in the way of things, which is typical!

Looking forward to the final pics and the new scape. You doing it in the same tank?

Sam

Quick update.

I went to the PFK office today. To cut a long story short, Neil Hepworth (PFK photographer), is coming over next week to take some "proper" photos. Good job I didn't strip the tank down then......

As much as my photos are ok, they lack the resolution required for a big magazine spread, as my camera is basically crap. I think the idea will be to print an "actual size" photo of the tank, across two pages.

Some other exciting news is that I may be appearing on Kiss FM (radio station owned by EMAP), as part of a podcast. :hyper:

Well done on the magasine spread. The tank is looking really good, would be nice to see it as a really mature tank maintained for say six months, and see the end result. But if you have other ideas, and they they turn out half as well as this one, i can't wait to see it!!!!

I'll keep an eye, or two on PFK for your nano tank!

Thanks.

Keeping this for 6 months is entirely possible but the end result would not look much different, as I feel this last photo is now in peak condition. Maintaining would consist on regularly uprooting and thinning out the hairgrass, pruning and re-attaching the riccia. Six months maintenance is far too much work, especially when I have new layout ideas that I'm eager to try out.

That's awesome news! How cool is that, 'proper' life size photos would be uber quality, really give the readers of PFK something to thin about! Well chuffed for you mate :)

And the podcast would be ultra cool as well, I take it you'd be talking about plants? Got any ideas when? You HAVE HAVE HAVE to you let us know when its available for downloading! That'd be crazy mad!

I'm excited for you! :D :hyper: :good: :D :hyper: :good: :D :hyper: :good: :D :hyper: :good: :D :hyper: :good:

Thanks Sam. Of course, I'll let you all know about the podcast. It's still in the planning stages but I will be talking about plant related stuff. Apparently I'm pencilled in as the first guest.

WOW :hyper: That is the best nano I have seen, great thread. I want to do one of these now.
As a matter of intrest how much has it cost you in total to complete the tank? (to give me some sort of idea).

Thanks.

Here's a quick cost break down -

Tank - £10 (Clearseal 12x8x8")
Filter - £8 (Aqua Vital 160)
Lighting - approx £35 total (Interpet PC T5 tube and controller, DIY T8 reflector)
CO2 - approx £100 (pressurized system)
Substrate - £10 (5Kg 1-2mm inert gravel with compost base)
Ferts - approx £15 (Tropica AquaCare Nutrition, potassium nitrate)
Decor - £1.50 (rocks), £8 (riccia stones)
Plants - approx £30 (Tropica Eleocharis acicularis, Riccia sp. "Dwarf")
Fish - approx £20 (10 x Microrasbora nana)

Total - approx £230

:S -_- Poof, seems alot for such a small tank, mind you mine cost well over that for an even smaller tank. Some times its not worth doing the math, to scary if you ask me.
