Thanks everyone.

Quick update.

I've just bought myself five of these little beauties for £10, from Maidenhead Aquatics, Crowland. They're acclimatising as we speak.

I researched these a while back and they like temp in the low 20sC so should be ideal. I also like their subtle colouration and they don't grow much bigger than 15mm. If these five do well I may well add some more. I much prefer these to the WCMM in terms of size.

Microrasbora nana (Burmese green neon rasbora)

Their green is much more subtle in the flesh.

Thanks mate.

I was very tempted by the M sp. "Galaxy" but I wasn't sure of their temp. requirements (no one is yet, as they're so new to the hobby). They were also a fair size larger than these too at around 20+mm, obviously growing well in the shop's water, always a good sign :good:.

Hopefully they'll do well and I hope to get some photos later today.

Hello thats a lovely tank, gonna be redoing my 8gal nano soon and I want to have a similar setup only with a boomerang shaped piece of driftwood covered in java moss in the middle. Can you tell me where you got your dwarf hairgrass from was it just your lfs or did you order it?Thanks!

Thanks. The hairgrass was two Tropica pots of Eleocharis acicularis from Aqua Essentials.

They've sold out, but if you e-mail them you can find out when their next order comes in.

Thanks man, how easy is it to grow?My tank will get direct sunlight during the day and a 60w desk lamp at night for a few hours and DIY CO2 as well as being planted into a substrate that has first layer laterite.Do you think this sounds ok?
Thanks!

Ickle fish are so hard to find near me. I saw some pygmy corydoras a few weeks back, but I have yet to see any other fish suitable for smaller tanks, excellent choice you all have doon' soof'!

Hard to say for sure. For some reason many seem to have difficulty with hairgrass, even those with seemingly perfect growing conditions. You'll stand the best chance by getting off to the right start with Tropica pots though, these are the best quality plants bar-none IME.

I am lucky to have such a good LFS where fish choice is concerned.

Here is a photo I managed to get of the new inhabitants, excuse the white marks, it's pearling. They're not showing much green but they've been in less than 12 hours. This said they seem happy enough and are very active, seemingly enjoying their new home.

It's hard to get a sense of scale from this photo so I'll try get a full-tank shot tomorrow. Believe me they are small.

I really like their relatively plain look. For me this compliments the simplicity of my aquascape, rather than contrasts perhaps excessively like say a cardinal tetra would in this instance. I've always considered fish selection very important for the more "serious" aquascaper, and I think leaving the decision to near the end of the aquascape's maturity is a worthwhile experience.

Enough waffling.

They do look good, George, and I agree, fish selection is often over-looked by aquascapers. My sunburst dwarf platies were picked only after I saw how bright a green my HM was and how colorful my aquascape was in my 8g. They fit the overall brightness of the tank quite well. Your rasboras would be lost in my tank, whereas my platies would look obnoxious in yours.

Again, great fish choice. Can't wait to see this layout in competition. :good:

That photo really does look great :good: Certainly getting better with the photos, has a professional look to it! I hope it's one you'll consider in your next top 10.

Have you experienced even the slightest algae on the hairgrass? Will you be adding any more shrimp?

Thanks voo. Photography is becoming more of a priority these days. I hope to get a decent camera next year.

No algae to speak of, not that's visible anyway. I doubt I'll be adding shrimp after the disaster with my "climbing Amanos".

I take it you are concerned that shrimps may escape from this tank? Wonder if they'd stand a chance escaping from my AquaCube? The water level sits maybe 1" or less from the top of the tank sides....
