Geo Identification

Righto, in Ross101's thread found here he has his Geophagus brasiliensis. Very striking fish. Anyway...

I bought 5 "Geophagus Brasiliensis" about a fortnight ago, and they were listed as exactly this. Mine look nothing like Ross' does, so its got me thinking. Unfortunately i havnt been able to obtain a picture yet as they are at the gf's house in one of my tanks. I have however been able to find this picture online of a "Geophagus Brasiliensis" which my 5 look the spitting image of. So if this is a Geo Brasiliensis then great, if not what is it?

Hoping someone can help, just seeing Ross' picture made me question if i have the same fish or not...

Brasiliensis come in different colour variations, you get the usual with the deep blue markings and you can get the 'bahia red' variety, which have more red colouration particularly in the fins.

Yeah, what minxy said !

Ross's has a very dark base colour for a G.brasiliensis.

Lots of cichlids are found in different colour variations due to different location origins..... but you already know that !

Yes true, i do know this. Never kept Geos before and just had a moment of doubt. Well, the image didnt work haha, even though it was the direct link (nevermind). I'll try and get a pic of mine up soon just for my peace of mind
