General Chat Forum?

Well I'm either an insomniac, or a maniac.. most likely the 2nd one.. I don't sleep until 4am normally. So I get very bored.. go internet!

edit: I don't care about the 2010 olympics.. I'm hoping to not live here then! holy crap a spider just descended upon my ear.

I'm just curious, why do any 'chatty' type posts get relocated to the 'annoucements and suggestions' area, at all?

Do you reckon it's important for an Ami to read up on the state of the world?

I don't know if they do get relocated there.. but I just went through the pages of the gas prices thing..

and I love all the people that are like ''this is a fish forum''

''why hasn't this been deleted''..

ahaha then someone said ''we need gas to drive to the fish store''

I'll make a bit of a comment here, risking the 'wrath' of my fellow mods since none have commented here.

Personally, I support a general chat section for some of the reasons already mentioned:

• can foster camaraderie among friends
• can help unload some steam among people with a common interest
• in the real world, we don't walk around just talking about fish everyday
• encourages thought
• can put personality behind a screenname

However, having been around long enough to see the old general chat section, there DEFINITELY were issues of concern. Problems DO arise:

• flaming
• loss of temper
• bashing of individual preferences including religion
• insulting personal appearances
• foul language
• abuse of topic choices

Be that as it may, many forums that I have visited have 'makeshift lounges' that function quite well. It DOES require consistent mod scrutiny. As for the petrol post, I think that we 'caved' a little and we have left that in place since it was of major concern to all in the US/UK and other countries, yet, moved it from the TCC area.

That being said, we live in a democratic society. The mods here are great and we go by consensus/vote, i.e, I support the choice that William and the mods decide on with regards to this matter. I can bring up the matter for discussion with them again, but, for now, I could only see more topics added under the general sectionSH

I have always found it strange that there was never a Genral Discussion/Sump Board on TFF

They seem to work very well on all of the other forums I frequent, yes debates do arise & arguments do happen but they are moderated & kept at bay

If the only thing stopping us having a GD board is lack of Moderators then why does TFF not enquire as to suitable people to mod this section & this section only, there are thousands of members of this forum & surely there are a handful who could devote a couple of hours to TFF

there are plety of people that would mod a board but the fact is we used to have one and it didnt work well
