General Chat Forum?

All I'm saying is, what's stopping me from chatting it up in the 'tropical fish chat forum', if all that's going to happen is... it's moved to the 'announcements and suggestions' forum?

I'm just observing.

I come here for the fish chat, but I see so many posts that are more 'general chat' moved to this annoucements area than actually deleted....

(besides, my Mom doesn't drive...)

But if you look at the stats on BigBoards (sorry don't have the link here now, but I checked it out a few days ago), the membership of the US really isn't far behind that of the UK percentage wise. There is a marginal difference. So perhaps it's because you guys are spread out over different time zones. But based on those percentages, there no reason why more of you US guys shouldn't pop in there more often when it's a convenient time. Perhaps start a thread to "pull" people and generate interest ?

As for general chat, as lovely as it would be (I never knew it here) I don't think it would work :/ Just looking at some of the immature childish threads that popped up over the past few days, proves that point.

well you gotta think...new members are joining all the time...they don't know all the rules yet...so they post random chat stuff and it gets moved they do it again it gets moved eventually a mod says quit it and they learn but by then someone else has come along and they are posting random stuff...see my point. You shouldn't post random stuff because it's against the rules and clutters the forum not to mention making the mods work deleting/moving the junk.

But at this point, we're arguing against human nature.

Honest to BLANK, if you had a general chat forum, a good 2% or less of my posts would be in there, as I come here to talk fish.

How many newbie posts out ther adhere to the rules? How many times do you go to your favorite fish forum, and see a topic that's addressed in the FAQ? These are all issues that a person must figure on when they start a forum whose singular goal is "get people who like fish, to talk to other people who like fish, so as to help people who like fish."

We start to feel cozy.
We start to wonder about that person who has offered us advice from afar.
We start to wonder about their cocktails, their favorite bands, and their mammilian pets. We start to wonder about their tanks.

This whole place could be one, great, big, wiki.

Why the line, HERE?

The petrol prices thing stays because a lot of the forum (and site admin) are from the UK..

If it was about ''Canadas gas prices'' , it would have been deleted within an hour.

Then I feel rather sorry for our Candian friends.

BLANK hehe I love it...I talk to several people from TFF on yahoo messenger. Just send them a PM saying hey I like the way you talk fish. Wanna chit chat on messenger some time.

Hah!

I'd feel like a total psycho.
" I LOVE THE WAY YOU BREED YOUR FISH.
TELL ME HOW YOU BREED THEM.

FISH SEX INTERESTS ME."

*exaggeration.

Actually that's a good point Torrean - I chat to a number of TFF people on MSN messenger every day ! If all that chat was in general talk :S it would be insanely busy !

Ok, well... let me say this: I'm preoccupied with the health, activity, personality, and tiny bits about my fish. I adore researching them. I come here because I figure at least part of you share a common weakness -- we all want to know more.

But at the same time... as a person, I feel the need to communciate with you people, and know about those of you who have the same problems I do.

I can chatter all I want to about the wellfare of my fishes at work, and all my coworkers will roll their eyes at me and treat me like a total nutcase.

But you guys?

You don't do that.

Do you?

DO YOU????

*joking

I'm usually awake 9am to 4am PST, and avialable for chat from 7pm to 4am PST... and the last time I was online... one person spoke to me, and it only took 2 days. w00t.
