Gab99's First Attempt At A Planted Tank

thanks guys

yeah i jut checked the tank again and the airstone is doing awseome the bubbles are smaller than the period at the end of the sentence.

lol thanks for the support biffster i ended up creaming the guy 6-0 6-0 and im headed t the finals in a hour

and my fish seem to like the plants more than i thought my gold barbs actually spawned! today is a good day lol
Congrats on the barbs spawning.
You gonna raise them or you gonna let the parents eat them

i netted the area off so well see what happens , if they hatch ill have an excuse to get a 20 gallon to raise em in tho lol

btw i wiped the floor with the guy on final round
Ahhh! Clever tactic :shifty:

yeah hahaha

anyways the ferts came in! and mikaila was right most of it looks like a thing that starts with C and ends in rack.....

seems everything rooted well spare 3 wisterias which cant seeem to stay in for more than a few hours, are they ok floating?

also got some hitchiker frogbit that came in some was eaten but the rest seems to be growing :D

had to move one of my swords because apparently sword plants have root wars with each other and i dont want to lose one so im going to move it back to center, which is wierd cuz my shorter ones and the argentinians dont seem to mind being next to each other?

umm thats it for now cant start dosing till i get a good scale

as promised pictures! and biulu yeah im not to sure about that but it could still be a possibility.
...9:10 yay pictures loading!
....9:20 yay only 2 more!
.....10:30 -_- for real
........10:40 i hate photobucket now
8 am youve got to be kidding me finally

i think this tank will look great once it has filled out. :good:

but the frogbit is actually duckweed. i'd strongly advise getting rid of it, as once it gets going it is almost impossible to get rid of.

cheers :good:

i agree with the duck
weed not unless you have
a bala shark who love the
stuff tank is looking good
just need to grow a bit it
will fill out

i looked up pictures between the two (duckweed and frogbit) and i can be almost positive that this has to be frogbit, whatever duckweed i had was in small amounts (10) and these were eaten by my fish, plus ive never had duckweed before so id like to try it and know that if it does get out of hand that it was my fault, i think i might have one piece floating around somewhere lol

first being that when my order arrived there were 2 vey distinct floating plants, one being significantly smaller than the other and with a different leaf shape, knowing that frogbit overall is larger than duckweed and the fact ive seen duckweed before led me to conclude i had both, tho i could be dead wrong since i came to an educated guess.

actually its in small numbers right now (11) ive put back the breeder box and im floating them in there to keep them together and to avoid them from 1. being eaten and 2.taking over the tank

again im not trying to come off as thinking that your dead wrong but the picture does make it look small in reality its about as big as my thumb nail and ive never seen duckweed that big

does it have roots? as frogbit has roots and duckweed doesn't.

nice pics BTW Gab.

thanks for the compliment ianho but my tank pales in the face of everyone elses lol i hope it gets to their status soon

yes it does have roots but the duckweed had roots as well?

btw i did manage to find the sole surviving duckweed but it isnt in good shape so i decided to re-check the shiiping bags for something (the bags are mostly dry by now) and found 4-5 more so hopefully ill get something lol

also does anyone know if wisteria can live floatiing? leaves that fell off when i first planted actually have a root structure now so idk if an actual plant will live to? or should i just throw the extra away since i have no room in the first place?

hi, yes duckweed has roots as well.

wisteria leaves that have rooted can be replanted. :good:

so ive decided to have the 3 wisterias that refuse to root as floating plants in my 5 gallon QT and they are doing great. i also moved the frogbit to the qt as well and ive got some large ones im intending to split up soon.

picked up 5 otos yesterday and they are in the QT right now, mostlook fine but one has a bent spine and a small discolored patch on its head. this morning he is looking straighter and the patch is shrinking so im guessing it could have been bad water quality. tho that one oto was a good reason for QT it was also the fact that the lady getting them was literally squishing them up against the glas and the gravel

ive placed an algae wafer as well they arent eating yet so when they are eating and when that one oto gets better ill put em in the display.

plants are doing great lots of good growth, need to replace the CO2 on sunday and find myself a scale for those ferts i got. and i just realized that the frogbit could come to good use when i get marble hatchets in dec. after i get the external for christmas

hey everyone hers an update

otos are in but only 3 survived the two i predicted that werent going to make it didnt so ill pick up two more for later on, they are doing great but have not seen an decrease in algae so i hope they get to it soon lol

going to replace CO2 today and top off the water, im asking for a postal scale for christmas so things should be well by then

still have a problem with plants getting ripped to shreds despite the fact i feed my fish so that they're so fat they cant swim right and still having to pick up floating leaves and with plants that look tattered *sigh*

frogbits are now at 165

things going good, not as well as i expected but still its getting there, god i cant wait till i get that external then things will finally be QUIET one of the dam filters sounds like a blender and the other (the AQ) is barely doing any filtering what so ever despite cleaning everything.

ok so everything is improving for the most part but im going to change somethings

im going to se what happens when i up my lighting by adding a coralife colormax bulb to see what happens as right now i only have a 10,000K bulbe hat came with the sturcture.

depending on what happens then ill increase bth CO2 and start dosing ferts at the same time (if plants are not growing)

which means im going to need more CO2 and someone suggested to me to use a 5 gallon water tank (like the kind commonly associated with office cubicles) and find the approporiate amount of yeast-water-sugar to have a big DIY thing, thng is there are prblems

1. might not be economocally sustainable on my part aka wont last long enought to be useful
2. big and blue
3. not enough ppm

unfortuanetlet it is my only route since i cant spend 300$ for regulator and CO2 tank, and this only requires the addition of a dropchecker so far.

thats it lol, ps the frogbit i havent ounted but it half way filled the top of the 5G QT and now its completedley coverd lol

stuck doing finals right now but managed to pick up 6 silver hatchet fish for after the holidays, two are less than an inch and haveing trouble feeding so any suggestions?

pick up bulb on wednesday
