From 48 To 180 In 3.0 Seconds Flat

You have waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much money if you can afford to spend £40 on a gravel vac.

A couple of things though... Be careful not to do it too much as it can cause ammonia, nitrite and nitrate spikes. Also, your gravel will be working as a great secondary filter.

Have fun sucking...

lol trust me it was not easy to let go of the cash. I just can't get a strong enough syphon going with my python system and I am soooo OVER the hose and bucket method lol. Plus I like to clean the substrate more than once a week but don't want to do a water change.

I've got sand which is part of the reason I want to vac more frequently, with the two plecs the poop builds up quite quickly and my corys like to hang out in the exact spot where it all accumulates  typical, so I want to keep it clean for their little whiskers. :p

I wasn't aware of the potential for spikes though, is that more of a gravel concern or should I be worried with the sand as well? :/ Thanks!

It's the disturbance that can lead to spikes.

If the detritus collects in the same place as the cories like then try swapping the inlet and outlet over. It may accumulate there if there is a dead spot in the flow.

I think it collects there because it's where the intake is but the poop is too heavy to get sucked up. My spraybar is on the same side as the intake which pushes the water across the length of the tank, down along the substrate (so sweeps everything towards the intake). I've always thought it was stupid that there's loads of crap sitting there underneath where it's all supposed to get sucked up  I've moved the intake quite close to the substrate but it makes no difference.

I also suspect, though haven't tested it, that the corys hang out there because they like to be next to the intake for some reason. Also, it'll mess up the movement of my vallis

I have the same problem on my sand. I get a huge pile of bn poop under the stupid intake. I DO have flow issues though but can't get a stronger water pump yet. Besides the flow wont help the intake suck it up.

Minnnt your tanks are always spotless....does your intake really catch all the bn poop?

I know man, I keep thinking I'm doing something wrong or my filter isn't doing it's jorb properly :grr:

I'm not sure tbh. I never see any gathering anywhere though. :look:

But then again, my tanks never stay the same long enough for it to congregate.

If I didn't know any better I'd say my male Bolivians were acting very couply tonight

After Ram Spice spawned her breeder tube started to lay back and she could have been mistaken for a male. My confidence in sexing them is a little shaken because I apparently have only seen them when breeding ready. She still looks a little on the male side...breeder tube wise.

Your dudes may have fallen for each other and one had to sacrifice his junk. True love

Yeah they both look manly to me :dunno:
I'm not one to get in the way of true love! Mistress Helga is looking like a 3rd wheel, bless her leather clad fins...

Love the wood work, nice black nail varnish you have there too. :)
