Fred's 5.5 Gallon Cube Journal

Corin, thanks for the kind words.
I do indeed have all the Galaxies. They do tend to hide alot

Nice qube RadaR! like the dark substrate. You mentioned earlier lots of Nerites where you work? care to let me know where?

Cheers planter.
Last time I worked, there werent as many left but we can easily order more in. I work at Cheddar Garden Centre in Somerset (hope that's not too far away). Even though it's a garden centre we certainly know our stuff. I usually work on Sundays but I shall be working a bit more because it's the holidays.

At last, some of the rotala stems are going a slight red colour.
Nothing major has happened. No algae. The Galaxies are hiding more (all day now), which is disappointing. So, Ive been thinking about adding in some different fish, not many though because I would still like to keep the Galaxies in there.
I shall post better pics tomorrow, ones that arent dark like the last pics.

I love this tank it looks great, sad to see your galaxies are hiding all the time. I think ember tetras would suite this tank, they're small and would enjoy the plants. I prefer the dark look BTW.

Might the amount of light be a reason for the galaxies hiding?

I doubt it, apparently the lighting is low in his tank, IME fish normally hide in high light conditions.

Actually there is a fair bit of light on this tank, 46W in total. So you may be onto something there, William.
The darkness I was reffering to was just down to photography :/

This is the happiest I've been with this tank so far. Everything is healthy (fish included ofcourse), the plants grow well, no algae. Even though the photos don't show it, there is a constant stream of micro bubbles of oxygen shooting to the surface.

One of my best shots of a Galaxy rasbora

New addition. Sterbia cory from another tank. It's much happier in this tank despite being on it's own

I am thinking of putting a red plant just to the left of the heater. Probably Rotala wallichii, what do you think?
Comment are always welcome. Improvements?

Looks nice, Fred. Well done.

Give it a good prune and see the growth come back even nicer. Plants love a good prune, trust me.

Thanks George. That gives me confidence for the PFK competition.
The pictures were actually taken after a prune. So you think I should prune more then? Looking at it now the hairgrass actually needs a big hair cut

Looking good Fred. Love looking through your photos. I think Rotala wallichii would look great in there- give it that extra colour.

My Aquacube filter blocks up as well, and when I clean it its too strong. Theres no happy medium with this filter  so ive replaced it with a Azoo hob filter, which im happy with.

Many thanks. I will give the wallichii a go. Ive always liked the plant.
Haha, i agree about the filter. The sponge is very weird, i may replace it. There is enough bacteria in the HOB to prevent a crash.

Yeah man. Prune and prune a bit more. Plants love it.

Can't agree with you more. I'm constantly snipping away, and I've got low-light!

Many thanks. I will give the wallichii a go. Ive always liked the plant.

This tank has progressed so much since I commented last. It looks wonderful. A sure contender for PFK.
