Football Banter/discussion Thread

yeah i just saw, ridiculous. now we really need to pull our finger out and buy a proper quality forward. im not expecting messi to turn up, but its got to be somebody decent, international quality. id love to chamakh from arsenal, he seems to be not having a good time stuck behind van persie in arsenals one up front system, especially now gervinho is there aswell.

however if i see bendtner anywhere near newcastle, i will get in my car and drive from norfolk to run over his foot so he fails the medical.

Too right not wanting bendtner, utter rubbish, please buy him anyway...

Ben Arfa injury is not serious apparently, got him in my dream team pheww lol

id love to see adebayor at newcastle, i think hes very very good. we couldnt pay him though, and ideally we need a small, nippy type of forward i think. Ba is going to be the frontman, somebody in the style of Defoe to play off him would be perfect.

Mike Ashley has lost the plot. im not sure he ever had it. what a nob.

if hes not out by xmas i'll be shocked. the fans wont have this, we were ready to give him a chance to spend the carrol cash, and start a new season with a enw manager, new yougner squad etc. but hes betrayed everybody, the fans at st james will not be quiet until this fat idiot is a million miles from newcastle.

with players speaking out this cant carry on, he seems to think we're all idiots, id love to slap his fat smug face - with a pickaxe.

Barton has to go to arsenal, if i was wenger id already be on the blower, hes exactly the type of player they need. arsenal confuse me. everybody knows what they need, apart from it seems wenger. since lehmann went mental they've not had a decent keeper. why didnt he bid for given last year ? if you ask me only cech is clear ahead of him, i think given was easily equal with reina, hart. and they still dont have a reliable keeper. everybody has been telling wenger he needs more grit, more resolve in the middle. this is barton territory. he may not have as much flair as others, but he doesnt need to if hes surrounded by the arsenal squad. sign him, it releases Wilshere to do what he does best. flog fabregas, hes not interested.

Got to agree totally with all of that, since Barton 'seems' to have sorted himself out then he would be a good choice and he suits Wenger down to the ground (free)My friend here in Cochabamba is a big Arsenal fan, has been since the 50's, and we couldn't understand why he didn't try for Given, bargain for 4 million as well. Must have been Givens age, only reason I can see. Arsenal need to buy and sort that defense and goalkeeper, I'd be getting a bit miffed paying £1000 a year for the cheapest season ticket (highest price in the league I'm told) and yet again coming away with nothing especially watching City, United and Chelsea strengthen quite considerably.

Trouble with the Newcastle fans I expect most of them have bought the season ticket already so not to go would be a waste of their own money.

Eh im so so about barton, dont think hes my cup of tea and although hes got grit, he aint good enough I doubt. Parker would/could be a better choice. I also like the look of Frimpong, although he lacks experience.

Btw the keeper situation has been sorted ages ago, also we all know buying doesnt always do the trick but a CB wouldnt go a miss!

I think its a shame whats happening with NUFC, do they not wanna stay in the prem!? Thats both cm gone now, ridiculous. Optimistic about Ba though, gutted he left my second team..

I take it you will be getting Vermaelen back for the start of the season? Even with him back you still need a left back, a center back and a goalkeeper (You seem to think that's fixed, I must have missed it) and you seem to have missed out on Juan Manuel Mata. Oh yes a striker that can score wouldn't go amiss!

I haven't seen Frimpong play (or even heard of him!) so no opinion there.

van der sar has proved age doesnt matter if you're good enough and in goal. wenger is clever enough to know this. and lehmann wasnt exactly a spring chicken was he ?

just reading the news, looks like parker is happy to stay at west ham another season, hes been promised investment in the team to keep him there.

Szczesny is a great keeper, no problems there. I suppose i look at these situations with a bit of pessimism, yeah we need a lb and i mentioned a cb, thing is, i know we wont get any...

Yeah vermaelen has played all pre season with koscielny, but we need someone else, then put koscielny as back up. Was hoping for parker on loan, no chance wenger would buy anyone english (inflation)

On a side note, anyone else think city are getting kinda ridiculous and making a mockery of football? I mean even if they won the league, how much credit and respect are they really gonna get?

i read in the paper an interview by petr cech, claiming there was no way City could 'buy' the title.

does he need reminding who he plays for ?

I don't get this about City, which team, since football was invented in 1992 haven't bought the league? You have two teams in the Manchester area one £700 million in debt with the owners talking millions of pounds out of football and another team putting millions of pounds into football and not just football but the area surrounding the stadium.

I think we all know that the Financial Fair Play rules were brought in by Uefa to allow the status quo to remain. Chelsea's owner was all for that until City came along and he was no longer the richest owner. It seems the rules got bent on City's sponsorship deal with Etihad Airways, let's see if Uefa try to enforce them....I'm going to say no, for the simple reason City's owner is far to powerful, by that I mean Presidents and Prime Minister have his office on speed dial, same with another owner - you don't annoy a Russian Mafia boss.

Oh I don't know if you have noticed, as it's a bit under the radar, but Oil Arabs now own Malaga in Spain, City in England and PSG in France, just Italy to go (I'm looking at you Florencia) not sure they are allowed to own a German team as they have strict rules about ownership.

Yeah, I know, teams spend money, but clearly, Arsenal, Liverpool and United have been a top team for many years and earnt their right to spend on good players etc, plus in cases such as Arsenal, we tend to spend money we earnt, rather than the owners millions of pounds.

Its the way City are going about it. They want instant success, and are just buying every time the window opens, I hope it settles down a bit now that they have 2-3 players for each position. Its bumping up the cost of players and wage expectancies, I mean look at Nasri, hes tempted by City cos they are probably offering double his wages, even I would be tempted, imagine someone doing your job, but up the road, and earning double your wages. But its not realistic, and now we are being manipulated to give him more money.

I hadnt noticed that about the owners, thanks. Seems like they want world domination! (in football lol) I watch the La Liga, but don't know the teams inside out, are they spending big at these clubs too?

Chelsea bought it big time! They also proved a valuable lesson, its a short term improvement! They invested, but now their bench is poor, same with most of their youngsters and their players are getting on now, wheres plan B? Looking forward to see how this pans out...

PSG are spending big, they just spent nearly 40 million euros on somebody, cant remember who it was though.
