Not in a 5 gallon tank. Platies get too big.

Came back from work and noticed 1 of the guppys tail has been nipped! Isit normal guppys nipping other guppys?

Came back from work just now and there is more off of his tail. He's definitely getting bullied and is staying of the right hand side of the tank

The best way to deal with a tank bully is to isolate the bully in the tank (use something like a breeders net) for a few days and then release the bully and see how they get on. 
Another option would be to return the fish getting bullied and get another one.

i know it works for shoaling/schooling fish, but how would adding more guppys work out?  some fish tend to be less aggressive when there is more of the pack to keep eachother in check

Adding more would sort out the problem, but 5 gallons is a bit small for loads of guppies.

Yeah I would like to add some more but think it may be too small. Would ideally like to have 6 and a shrimp or 2.

Tank is going well! Looks really nice too the lighting and hidden filters and that.

The 1 that was getting bullied last night was lurking in 1 place for ages having a little swim then back to its place. But today he looks a different fish. Swimming everywhere and with the other fishes. Hopefully it's sorted out now
