Well 4 weeks trying to do a fishless cycle and its getting very boring.
Ive added:
1. planted wood from an established tank
2. Nutrafin Cycle
3. Bactozyme
4.Even got some Bio Spira from America
5. pure Ammonia (gone done to 2ppm a few times, added back up to 6ppm)
6. Api Test kit
I did get a reading of Nitrite about 5 days ago, but now its just 0  all the time
Its comming up to 5 weeks now, and I feel I will have to put the whole thing on hold till after crimbo.
My temp is 30
I just wanted to 'vent' some of my frustration on to you guys :-( With all your lovely tanks, all fishes and stuff ;)

Provided you are using worthwhile kits to test all the parameters, then a reduction in Ammonia suggests that the bacteria for breaking it down are developing. Now that Nitrite readings are reducing it would suggest that you now have a community of bacteria to break down Nitrite as well. You may not have experienced spikes of either Ammonia or Nitrates, but the reduction in both readings could be construed as good news after five weeks. Perhaps you are now in a position to start introducing fish slowly.

Anyone with more experience than me got any advice?

I forgot to mention, isn`t thirty degrees about five degrees too high, generally speaking.

Never heard of watching bacteria colonies growing being anything but boring, just wait dude.

i added some black widow tetra after 3 weeks, no fatalities and it really helped. Good hardy fish.......

Shouldn't it only take like 2-3 weeks to do a fishless cycle?
Not necessarily. It took a whole month for mine to cycle without fish and without seeding it since I didn't have another tank before. I've heard of many people's taking even longer.

Both tanks I've fishless cycled I did in two very different ways, but both took 35 days. Patience is a key to the process.

I hear you!

Im in the same position I have 4 tanks currently fishless cycling! Although I do have a few snails in one of them.

There is only so many times you can you can re-arrange the decor!

I would ask around to see if any memebers local to you are willing to donate some matured media to you. I've hopefully found one! There is a sticky in this section of people willing to do it.

I've tried that cycle and bactozyme and nitra zorb as well but you know what I dont think is does anything!

ian's tank took 6 weeks to cycle so don't loose faith.

what's your ph at? as a v low ph can inhibit the growth of bacteria, unlikely but worth checking!

check out the pinned topic of members willing to donate some mature media, that's your best shot at speeding it up.

:)
