im just wondering if i can feed my fish with vegetables?
i saw some pic here with a slice cucumber or somthing in the tank, and fish are eating it.
if so.. what kind of vegetables?
how much of it can fish tolerate?

heres my fish
neon tera
corys
zebra danios
ember tetra
gourami

tnx!!

I don't think fish eat vegetables.

wrong.

list of veg that i have fed my fish...

potato
carrot
courgette
cucumber
red bell pepper
sweet potato

admittedly that was to feed plecos which you dont have, but fish definately eat veg.

From your list i would expect the gourami and corys to eat veg, start with courgette (zuchini to the americans) and take it from there.

I heard that potatoes aren't suitable to be fed to fish because they are high in starch and they can't digest complex carbohydrates.

Mine like a slice of banana or two
Peas
Zuchini are corgettes to us british
Cucumber
frozen peas boiled cooled then shelled
coriander
basil
and a few of the plants I have bought in the lfs.

it depends on what you are putting in the tank
for peas: boil them and remove the outer skin then smash em up with your fingers and put 1 or 2 in the tank and then put more as the fish eat it up
oranges:cut a round slice and put it in a food clip and attach it to the side of the tank, be careful with oranges though as they will pollute the water like crazy as the fish eat them
broccoli: boil and put on food clip and the fish will pick at it until its all gone
cucumber:boil and food clip
carrots:boil and food clip

I am just wondering what nutrienal value fish can get from vegetables that have been "boiled".
I'm pretty sure "boiled" vegetables that humans eat don't have much.
Much of the vitimans and minerals leech out of vegetables which are boiled according to any food expert so why feed these to fish?
Just asking.
Do tropical fish eat vegetables in the wild?

We use vegetables for a few reasons and fish do the same. Perhaps uncooked cucumber is better but I guess in this world processed too much unlike the wild.
However there are many hidden nutrients that can be use or matter for roughage. Need I say more.

Fish survive like us with a varied diet that is not alll protein.

its not absolutely necessary to boil the food, it just helps it sink faster and most of the time the fish will start eating it right away rather than waiting a day or to before even taking a bite because its not soft enough for them

soaking them in warm water will also speed up the process of the water soaking in which helps it sink faster
but its not necessary to boil the food
