Fish (species or types) you'll never keep again?

African Cichlids and livebearers (I have soft water)

Common pleco, tin foil, bala shark

Pair of convicts. 1 is cool.
Haa.. I agree with convicts. They went psycho over their reflections and their mouths got ripped apart and then attacked each other and they beat up the thing out of my fish and they limited my stocking.

Another vote for Zebra Danios - two of mine killed off the others in their school then attacked a beautiful dwarf Gourami and ate all his fins off. I had to euthanize him - broke my heart. One of the two zebra's left had an accident when I dropped a lid on him - I still have the other one but I don't think he's capable of doing any damage by himself - at least not so far.

I agree. They are super aggressive and territorial. I have 1 rescue that I just can’t give up. She’s been through a move all the way across the US. If she can survive that, she deserves to stay with me.

African cichilds, after they took over my 55 gallon tank and I had to move my other fish because they were aggressive and then fill my tank with more aggressive baby cichilids. They were nice looking fish and I enjoyed them at first but never bought any in the years since then.

I told myself Dwarf Gourami but I currently have 8 so that didn't go well o_O
I think i'm done with domestic Bettas, i've never been a huge fan and i've been battling an illness for several months with one until recently.

For zebras and serpea tetra, they really do need a large tank compared to their size. I've kept both fish multiple times without any issues whatsoever, but they were never in anything under a 55 gallon tank.

Probably goldfish. I've only had them once when I was a lot younger (in a way too small and way too overstocked tank) but I've heard that they require a lot more than most people give them. Don't really enjoy them enough to keep any, though I am passively curious about why their care standards are so high

I'm not sure it's case of their standards being high but more a case of people not understanding what they need - things like a big enough tank, the right food etc. Give them what they need and they are no harder than other fish.

For your 'passive curiosity', look at the sticky on goldfish on the forum https://www.fishforums.net/threads/goldfish-for-beginners.417799/

Scarlet badis...Dario Dario
Beautiful tiny fish. VERY picky eaters.
I worried every mealtime. I can't say if they would be different in larger groups, but I won't be testing that out.

Also, Zebra Danio.

Lollypop, ("a glo" Zebra danio....I know, it was a moment of weakness), bless his/her heart. I got he/she to go in a tank with my WCMMs. They were the same size, and He/She was all alone forever in the fish store, so I thought it would be great . Did I say FOREVER?

Alas, He/She harrassed the minnows. I had to take her out so I put her in a tank with Tara, my ivory mystery snail, which was fine but I felt bad. Lollypop was a VERY active fish

When my LFS got more like Lollypop I took he/she back, and she was sooo happy. I talked to her every time I went, whis is a lot.

One day Lollypop wasn't there. A little girl chose my sweet Lolly ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

I had a dumbo eared betta. I will never ever keep a dumbo again. The large fins made it difficult to swim, the large fins attracted the guppies who nipped them until I removed her. She could not stand any kind of current, and had to live in an unfiltered tank with plants. The whole thing seemed cruel to the betta and I will never keep another dumbo again. I will never keep moscow guppies. The large tail weighed the guppy down and just seemed not good.

What are yours?
well not fish but Mystery snails. they didn’t live very long and they smelled awful when i removed the dead.
as for bettas i’ve learned on the forum guppies and bettas might be bad. fin envy i think. lol

They laid eggs, eggs hatched and the chaos broke out! They started being so agressive and they ripped fins of my fish and put them on the surface so no fish would be in the middle and they are the ones who hurt my little swordatil girl!
man this is starting to sound like True Crime shows on Netflix. sorry i shouldn’t use my lame humor in matters of loss. it is sad.
