Fish 'Shed' Is under construction!!

The wood is not a problem - I have enough to finish now...
Its just the insulation I want to get my hands on :)

End walls and the ply for the roof will be going in/on tonight.

Insulation will then be added as I can get hold of it.

Ah just thought - I need some hinges for the door :)

Dad is on his way over now :)

Excellent job! Good to see that you are insulating your floor as well. What type of fish are you intending on keeping when the hard work is done, and what s your plans for the tank stands. Are you going to collect rainwater from the roof via corrugated perspex sheeting channelled into a butt/butts. Im a nosy bugger.

We're going for plecs and now syno petricolas as far as breeding goes - Might go for some endlers too (as I got some on Saturday as the guy I got the synos from had been using them to help condition the synos??)

Tank stands will be free standing 2x2 frame with 10mm ply on the top.
Not too sure on the layout get - but in my head the far wall will have 3 teirs of tanks.. the right wall (garage) will be 'free' for development with the water butt and RO unit this end - Lawnmower and work top will be on the left (for the RC cars and work area :))

Water wise we'll be using Mains and RO. The water butt will be collecting the waste RO for the garden and possible other tank water changes.

More pics to follow in a sec (got to get them off the camera)

Right folks... here is where we are at tonight.

It started costing money today - 3 sheets of 9mm ply (weather board)
This will form the roof to which the felt will be applied... I have a dilema on this one, We were going to use shingles on the roof (felt 'tile strips') they are £14 a pack and we will need 4 to cover the roof. - that will be £56... or i can pay a roofer £100 to get it properly felted and tar'ed...
Not sure what to do as I am currently broke.

We got one end in tonight too (with the door way in place and every thing)

Here are the piccys...

I've been busy today - I asked the site forman about the insulation... Help your self he said :D

I'm now 80% insulated and just need to put the rear wall in and insulate it and its almost done :D :D

Piccys to follow (I'm just taking 5 as its soo HOT out there!)

We want more pics :D :D :D

Top work there mate ;)

Would offer to lend a hand, but I'm a bit busy lately !!! :p

Fabulous ! And how lucky are you got get all of the materials practically free - and as a bonus the (slave) labour too  ;)

Enjoy your birthday too :bday:

Jammy bugger, i work on sites and cant get hold of insulation without handing over a substancial drink to the storesman :/
Work on my fish house started and then stopped almost as soon after, i had a electrician friend look at how we would get power out to the fish house and after a quick look at our fuse box he said id need a new fuse box fitted as our 1950's one is now redundant and that i'd be looking at a good few hundred quid to buy one and have it fitted as well as having the armoured cable run out and all the lights and sockets in the fish house conected, theres no such thing as a mates rate when playing with a live mains feed :( Now i guess it will have to wait until we eventually move out of this place.

For the roof pay the hundred for the tar and felt, thats a very good price (i'd have charged double at least) and it will last a whole lot longer than the stick on felt tiles, a properly done tar and felt roof has a minimum life of 10 years, those felt tiles last 5 if you're lucky.

Thats my line of thought too... and as the rest has cost me just £45 :)D :D)
I think I'll do it (at the cost of a few cold looks from the Mrs :))

Electrics are easy - thats the back of the garage that its attached to - Jus on the other side of the wall is a double socket and just above that is the light feed (all of its own trip and RCD in the garage :)

The problem for me is going to be water... I'm fitting the RO unit to the garage wall and will want a usable mains feed - with tap etc in the shed...

Have a look in screwfix for the Fuse box and trips - we had to change ours at our old house as it was the old ceramic re-wireable ones. addmitidly me and my dad dit that too - but parts were around £100.

Any electrical work that involves more than wiring a plug now has to be done by a certified electrician and a certificate to show the work was done by them must be issued once the work is complete, a lovely new law the government bought it after a MP's daughter killed herself via a dodgy DIY electrical socket in her kitchen. Of course this now means the sparkies can and are charging what they like as there is no way around it, my mate is so busy he would have to charge me for his time simply because he would be turning down other work to spend time on mine. If our place wasnt rented i would splash the cash out and just get it done but i really dont want to drop a few hundred quid on someone elses property and then maybe move in 6 months time, its a shame but i will just have to do without.

don't bother with covering the bases in ply, just put polystyrene on top of the 2x2 battens, your dad is such a perfectionist he will get the stands for the tanks completely level!!!!
how are you going to heat the fish house? i have 2 electric tubular heaters wired to a thermostat, and it keeps my fish house at a constant 26C.

another thing i would recommend is planning your tank layout before acquiring any tanks, you may find yourself giving any collected ones away, i know i did!!
