Fish Room Journal

Ok so...Progress made.

Tank stand is complete. Just needs some panelling which I'll do once it's all plumbed in.

Queen Angel is being picked up in the morning and is going to have to live in my 55gal for a week :( I know not ideal but it's the best I can do.

Tank is coming on Wednesday morning. It will be plumbed in, cleaned, filled with tapwater to check for leaks, emptied and cleaned again all in time for Friday when I get my new RO unit.

Saturday while I'm in work I'll let the RO unit start filling it. I am expecting it to be filled and ready to start putting LR etc in on Tuesday. All of my existing LR, sand etc will be going in and in a tank of that size I'm not expecting any real cycle as I only have enough LR for about 70 gallons worth of tank. I figure any die-off from the move isn't going to make much impact on 150++ gallons of water.

Also on Saturday I will bring home the MH lighting from work which will be hooked up on Monday. Until then we will have to make do with the lighting from our 55gal tank.

Pics to follow when I find my camera

Yeah me too

So... I picked up the Angel today along with the hardware for the tank. I was going to bring the tank hood etc too but I couldn't get it in the car.

Anyway here are some pics....not great I know but expect more through the day.

Here is all the techie stuff...

Since going into the tank, Beauty has been bonding with Phillipe the cleaner shrimp. She has also eaten some brine which she has been fed on in her last home. :fun: She turned down all other foods I offered but seemed to enjoy some nori. Looking good :good:

Angels eat lots of algae and sponges on the reef. Keep its belly full with nori if you can :)

Yeah I agree.

We planned to add more support to the stand once the tank was in place so we could see where they would be most needed. You can't tell from that pic very well but it as made from 4x4 and 4x2 timbers so it should have the strength.

When we put the empty tank on it this morning it does appear a bit wobbly  The stand is just over 6ft long and just over 2ft wide.

Another unforseen problem is that I need to make a hole in the top for the overflow pipe. BUT...I don't think I will be able to because the stand will be in the way

I have a decision to make now...

Either I can add some braces for stability and uprights for strength or..... I go back to my original plan, scrap the wood stand and make a new one out of bricks.

Any opinions??

Before you scrap the timber try adding a couple of diagonal struts in. A square/rectangular frame is always likely to want to move unless it has some seriously heavy duty bolts holding it together. A square isn't rigid but a triangle is.

If you make a couple of diagonal supports bolted through the existing 'corners' the frame will get it's rigidity and simply cannot move. Think about the farmyard gate principal - without the diagonal struts the gate would pretty soon be dragging on the floor at the end opposite the hinge, same with garden gates etc.

If you are concerned about access to the area below the stand, just try bracing the rear - that may be sufficient with more support to the centre?
