been struggling the last couple weeks, recovery comes slower as we age...

In hindsight my reply about rust was a bit flippant Magnum.

That is a gruesome looking injury that probably hurts even worse than it looks. I know I would be using every cuss word at my disposal if afflicted with that injury. Heal quickly.

still sucks, but gets just a smidge better each day... moved a silo today, at least I can still do that

BTW... ankle is still getting better albeit, very, very slowly I still have an open wound, about the size of a US quarter in the center, that is still weeping, and still have a pretty large soft bump on my shin, where my leg was 100 % bruised all the way through the tissue... I have the typical pain of an open wound in the one spot... everything else has transitioned to more of an itch.... on another Dr. visit, my regular 6 month appointment, he recommended scrubbing it up, each bandage change, and prescribed an antibiotic ointment to apply to the open wound part, and said I was doing all I could for it... my regular Dr. is part of the wound care clinic, so his advice is sound... I'm out of the prescription salve, this week, so I may make another appointment, just to have it looked at again...

I was outside on the farm all weekend, and it's a challenge keeping it clean, with the type of things I need to do on the farm... the weeping is down significantly, it would be nice if the open part would close up...

I think just about anything broken bones or??? would have healed faster than this crush wound...

It is looking better but concerning it's still an open wound after all this time. Keeping it clean and covered is one thing but what you really need to do is keep off your feet, man! I know that's a huge challenge considering all your responsibilities but you've got to rest it

I do keep it up, as much as possible, if you look at the original injury, there was very little abrasion, so the main damage seems to be caused from how it has to heal deep within... the open area seems to me like a vent, and it's close to a big soft bump in the wound area

Like i said i would expect it to drain for up to 6 months as tissue die; hopefully the pain aspect will be significantly reduced in another week. As for mayo clinic; perhaps you have a bad doctor or perhaps you expect a miracle given the amount of tissue damage.

Nope, I have the best Dr.
I'm sorry if I'm offending anyone... but, Mayo Clinic is horrible... it's not just me, the whole area, wishes they would go away... litterally 100's from town, are driving a 100 miles, to Dr. somewhere else... they worry more about fancy fronts to their buildings, than patient care, they are horribly under staffed, both on doctors and nurses, and if you don't go to the ER, you can't get an appointment ( even for cancer ) for at least 6 months... I better stop, because I could go on, and on with how bad they are...Take care of a foreign dignitary, yes, take care of a senior citizen, no, would you just die already... really, really bad... they have a monopoly in the area, buying up all the small town clinics and hospitals, and closing them, to eliminate the competition

I always thought the Mayo clinic was one hospital on the east coast. I never realized they were an expanding for profit health corporation.

You learn something awful every day....

That is an ugly wound, and I would avoid watching Alien for a few more weeks. It's made progress, but ouch.

... they actually claim non profit status, and have signs up in the ER claiming that, and even solicit me for donations, while they are so expensive to go to, that I was canceled off a work insurance policy, a few years ago, because I live in area, that it's impractical to go anywhere else... I think they just spend all their yearly income money, so they don't have to pay taxes... putting on fancy atriums, and such...

I have been jumping through their hoops, for the last 2 weeks, to get into wound care, I finally got an appointment for 2 weeks out, by then, it will have been 6 weeks since the injury, and I likely won't have a surface wound to treat, and every time I've gone in, they just tell me I'm doing everything myself, that they would do, and just keep doing that, I'm getting paperwork, that my insurance may not pay the bills, as they are so large, and Mayo hasn't done enough...

There are a lot of issues with medicine in the USA; part of it is with how insurance works (most family doctors are under-paid while executives at insurance companies are overpaid); overhead costs are huge for many reasons and at least at my local hospital if i can't find my insurance card but pull out a credit card they will refuse to allow me to prepay without insurance (yea right). Then there is the whole issue of negotiated costs between insurance companies and the hospital that sometimes make no sense at all. So next time you have to deal with hospital expense take comfort that the ceo of your insurance company could be making 20 million+.

In fact (and this is the catch-22); the more the insurance screws you over the more the ceo gets paid; this has to do with how ceo compensation works of which a good portion is stock options and bonuses and a portion of which is based off of the company profitability.
