Fish Photography, Cameras Inc. Waterproof

I am interested in what cameras, techniques are best for fish photography. Also, does anyone use a waterproof camera, and if so is it a better option for getting up close?

I use a Panasonic Lumix FZ100, on a tripod if I am doing it properly, with a remote shutter. I also have a macro lens which I often use postmortem to gain further insights into a deceased fish condition.

My husband uses a GoPro and films the fish for awhile, after that he loads the video onto his Mac computer and takes stills from the video

There are a few things I've picked up along the way:
 

• Lighting is key - plenty of light
• Take photos at night to minimise glare on glass
• Take photos with the camera lens hard up against the glass to help focus
• Take photos directly on facing the tank to minimise glass distortion
• The closer the fish is to your lens, the sharper the photo
• Sit and wait and wait and take more photos and wait some more to get your shots
  
• I use flash set on low, I know many use more lighting and no flash but it works for me
• ISO no more than 200

I use a Sony A380 with an 18-55mm lens and a flashgun.....well soon as I sort a new charger out.

An update...

I recently asked at a specialised photography store about waterproof cameras for fish photography, however, he stated that they would not really achieve what I was looking for. Thus, more research me thinks...

i use a contour roam 2 video camera for fish pics. it takes a pictures every five sseconds if i set it up

Just took a quick look, nice looking camera. My nephew has a Go-Pro. Out of interest what made you select the Contour? Do you place it inside the tank? Are you able to link or upload an example of a fish picture taken with it please? I also need the camera for my bicycle, as planning London to Paris this year

I chose it as it's around 100 pound cheaper than the same spec go pro. It's waterproof to a meter by itself or you could get a waterproof case. I use it on my motorbike as well. I'll look through my pics and get back to you.

I have a Sony A33 (dont use it much anymore) and my trusty Sony A58, quite capable of taking a stunning pic (if only the user gets it right lol)
 
I usually only take pics at night, no flash, just tank lights (and some are not very bright).
