Fish Names

I used to name absolutely everything, but that has since changed... when I started naming my fish when I first got into the hobby (and didn't know anything!), they'd die as soon as I named them. Seriously, it had to have happened at least 5 times, name em and within a few days they're goners. I'm a bit superstitous now, I admit, but sheesh, with good reason if you ask me! I do name the ones who have a ton of personality - they're begging for names. For example, my betta is Captain Jack Sparrow, and if you've seen the movie - let me just say, the name fits. Period. The other fish I have named is my Dwarf Gourami - he's a kick in the pants. I named him Humperdink... ah yes, my fav movie - The Princess Bride. *RAH RAH!*

I believe the "name them & they will croak" thing also

Fishy is our old man betta but my daughter and I both agree that it's not REALLY a name so he's in the clear

We DO have Pink & Floyd (male/female pair) they were found within days of each other,Floyd first & Pink a couple of days later but we hardly ever call them by name

my favorite male in the world who passed away,the betta who held true to his name & the only male I've lost in the past 3 years,.....my sweet,sweet Candy Cane Boy, that's what we called him &.... well.... & my daughter named our gold nugget Polk A.Dotty and lost him too,now I cringe when we get a new fish and she tries to name it

all the other bettas are just referred to as "sweet pretty boy" or "pretty girl" or "flarey flarerson" , "sassy McGee" , the list of nick names goes on & on

none of the other fish are named ,but I'll admit that I do call one of my L200's "little bit" )

I name ALL my fish (see my signature) I'm not too supersticious about that, but then I haven;t had any of the bad luck that you have had wuvmybetta and Juliethegr8T :'(


They are all named on their personalities, eg, chunk has a chunk missing from her tail, shell looks like a duck egg shell (wasn't that creative that day!)

Trinny and Suzannah (one fat and one thin, both with bad dress sense he he! )

Wayne and Waynetta, complete slobs

Monica, (from "monica from friends") bit neurotic and developing into a bully...!

not named my babies yet as they are hard to tell apart, but I have a fat one that I think is going to become Jabba the Hutt...!! he he!

Not really. When I got 2 Danios to cycle my tank, not knowing their sex, I thought I could call them Thelma & Louise... until they spawned .

I would name my fish, but I dont get the chance. My sons will name anything that comes in the doors. See if this makes any sence.......
Living in my house are Tom, Jess, Thomas, Mike, Racso, Hobo, Zita, Kalea, Baby, Fred, (begin fish)Angel, Montague, Rupert, Buddie, Moogie, Pauper, Red Fish, Blue Fish, Old Fish, New Fish, Banjo, Loopie, Attitude, and Phantom. Luckly they dont name the Ghost shrimp.....they are usually refered to as turtle food.

I have only really named my clown loaches and they are called Emile, Milan and Micky after the Liverpool FC strikers! Emile is a big bruiser, Micky is tiny but quick and Milan is somewhere in the middle.

However we have also started calling one of our platies Thomas Crapper because he never stops pooping... and our dwarf gourami is Randy because.... that's what he is!

Julie I that film too! You should name one of your others 'the Dread Pirate Roberts'!

I only name my fish if they're big and 'pet-like' like oscars, salmontail cats and the like.

I lost 3 fish during my move this month.......the three with names

There was Bert (or Bertram when he was misebehaving lol) the blue betta (well blue when i brought him, he was very red after a month or two)
and Bob and Jay two mollies, not sure what sex they were, the same I guess though based on the fact I didnt get any more lol, named cause the fat one, well he said BoB alot and the other one had really long fins so he had to become Jay as in Silent Bob and Jay (though I only ever seen them in Dogma-love that film)

We named all the fish but the neons because they are very hard to tell apart. Actually, my three year old daughter named them:

Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather (from Sleeping Beauty)
Buzz Lightyear and Woody (from Toy Story)
