I was just wondering if anyone else has the same desire to name everything living thing. :D

i've named two of my bettas (a solid red named Dante and a Purplish/Bluish/Pinkish one named Indigo), would name the third if i could think up a good name for him. i've also named only four of my five mollies, and i base it on looks and personality. Outlaw is my dominate male, he's mostly orange with some silver and black and on his back/sides he has black markings that make it look like he has a saddle on, and he tends to bully the other male a bit, hence Outlaw. then theres my big female marble molly. she was my first fish and survived my newbie no-nos and new tank syndrome (dont' mess with her). since she was prego when i got her and based on her personality, she's Big Mama. i also have a gold female that i was initally calling midas, but started just calling her Goldie (oh so original, i know) and that has stuck. i have a small black lyretail female i named Lyra. Then theres my other male, he's mostly silver with some orange and black flecks on his back and fins. he's the low man in the tank and i haven't come up with good name. my cories, the pandas, i can't tell apart yet as they're only half grown, will name 'em when i can tell which is which, and my network cory is too new, i don't know its personality yet.
but i love to name them, i sat in front of that tank for hours the first few weeks just watching my fish trying to think up names. i had a mean platy for a while, ended up naming him capone. his girlfriend, a blue mickey mouse, had little pink round markings on her "cheeks" so she was rosie. :D

The names I gave my three bettas were based on their personality along with their looks. :fun:

Contrary to kids names, which you first assign, thus laying on them the burden of living up to that predecessesor, whoever she or he was, My fish get their names from who they are, physically, or behaviourally.

I once had a female guppy with a divided left fin. She quickly became Anne Bollenne, because she seemed to have the extra fingers!
My Cully was named Gerard, after Monsieur Depardieu. He behaved so french-like, and the nose... it was a perfect match!
Oh, and I could go on, there was even a Jaques De Molay among my Mollys...

Maybe this would be a better system for the kids also. Wait till they're eight, and then name them according to their personal slant!

About 1/4 of my fish are named.....would be kinda hard to remember 150 fish names I think LOL!!!

Freshmike helped me name my new Oscar... his name is Chester Bertuzzi (Todd Bertuzzi is a big bruiser of a power forward for the Vancouver Canucks hockey team  )

I name all my fish. Must be a "proud mommy" reaction or something. ;) I usually have a little list of names in mind from which I choose one once the fish has settled in and shown what he/she is like. Although for similar-looking shoaling fish I'm afraid they all have to share the same name.

i got 3 of my parrots named.

1 is kay after my gf's mum who bought me her....1 is mrs pink coz she pink but i might change her to floss and 1 is mr blue

i had a ram called baa but he died

1 of my cory's is called dyson after the vacuum

1 of my catfish is called hugene coz he's HUGE!

and i got 2 compressiceps called bonnie n clyde coz theyre a couple

Some of my fish have names and some don't. My blue and red Betta was named "Spiderman Fish", after I saw that someone else on here had used a similar name for one of their fish. I'm partial to the movie "Spiderman" because my boyfriend and I went to see it on our first date. I named the fish "Spiderman Fish" because of that, not to copy someone else (seeing that someone else used a similar name gave me the idea of using 'Spiderman' in the name). My other two Bettas are un-named.

One of my Platies is "Blue", 'cause she has some gray/blue coloring. One of my white w/black spots Platies is named "Perdita" after the mommy Dalmation in "101 Dalmations". The rest of the Platys remain un-named, at least for now.

My Panda Cory is named "Panda" (original, huh?). My other two Corys don't have names, at least for now.

My Plec is named (Pet.) Ether. That's after a chemical we use in chem class - Petroleum Ether, usually shortened to Pet. Ether. In chem lab one day, I decided that I should name my Plec "Ether" so that I could have my "Pet. Ether". :D My chem teacher and fellow students found it amusing

Jean Claude and Sebastian are the names of my Ghost Shrimp. They just seemed like good names for them. Sebastian is after the crab in "The Little Mermaid". Jean Claude just seemed like a good name for Sebastian's buddy. <shrugs>

There you have it - the whys of my fishs' names.

I named mine...You can see it in my sig. Does anyone recognize the names?
Yup I recognize those names. Remember when the cartoon first came out? As for naming my fish, I name all my bettas. Lets see theres
Sgt_fury (recently deceased) a Wal-Mart rescue, male
Mogo (Guess where that name came from) another Wal-mart rescue, female
Lippy (Named after Lipreader of this forum) Melano crowntail, female
Buster Melano crowntail, male.

I named my cories but not individually. I just call them the stooges.

All my fish have football players names. Each species are different teams. The Danios are carlton. The silver shark is Collingwood magpies. The red platys are the Sydney Swans. The tigers are of course Richmond tigers. The cherry barbs are Adelaide crows. The gouramis are Fremantle dockers. The bristlenoses are the Brisbane bears. The Albino corys are the umpires. This makes my mates much more interested in my fish than what they would otherwise be.

i name everything!!!!!!!!!!! all my fish have names......all my sails r called Meep and once i even named a plant  my names have nothing to do with anything mostly just random things i come up with
