Does anyone know of a Marine fish and invertibrates index that exist on this forum like some other categories or possibly another website in which there is a large listing of even just common marine aquaria. Im trying to do research for a nano tank and want to look up alot of options for the future.

Live Aquaria have a good list of Fish & Inverts

As does Jacks Pets

Whoa, Rochester, you're nextdoor to me :D. Dont forget saltwaterfish.com as a great resource for fish options.

Also, since you're a fellow upstate new yorker, I would be doing you a dis-service if I didnt point you to the Upstate Reef Society (URS) since there are TONS of people locally that would be able to help you out with livestock and equipment there. Thats our local club which is more active than most that I've seen anywhere. There seems to be more members from rochester than any other city too ;). We've got some great "old salties" over there to help you out :)

Sweet, I'll def check them out. I don't know when I will be trying a reef tank but one day in the future and I figure I might as well learn as much now so when I go to do it, it will be like nothing.

O, and checking out the the crap stock of lfs' around here, do you know of any good stores to hit up for semi-uncommon fish, or would you recommend, because of our crap lfs', to just look online for some good fish?

Thnx Skifletch

Thnx to you too chac

Actually Rochester has some decent shops, maybe you're not going to the right place. Where are you going currently?

I live in greece so stay mostly there or I go over to irondequiot. I go to petco or petsmart only if I need food or maybe want to buy a plastic plant or something. I've learned not to go to them for fish. Plus, I think their selection is kinda boring.

I go to the Pet World in Greece for most of my "hardware." ie. Tanks, Filters, Heaters, food, substrate and other things associated with the aforementioned. I go here cause they have the cheapest prices I've found without going on the internet.

I've checked out a shop in Irondequiot called "The Reef Shoppe" for some ideas on saltwater aquaria and was quite impressed. Seemed like they had quite the assortment of coral and live rock, but I was less than impressed with the diversity of fauna that they stocked. I asked the guy about special ordering fish and the prices he was telling me were outrageous. Maybe he figured just cause I was young, I would be stupid and not have done any homework to know what these fish should cost.

Also in Irondequiot, is a new store called Pet House. The owner has some real nice freshwater fish at decent prices, but I don't know if he really is as knowledgable as he prob should be for owning a store. He says he knows alot, but when checking his info, he is wrong about 50% of the time, and if im spending $40.00 to $100.00 on a rare fish, then I want him to know what hes talking about 100% of the time.

So thats pretty much it. I have a small petsaver basically around the corner from me that is good for emergency food runs or other small items. If there are more (which im sure there are), I would love to hear about your favorites! Thnx again

Yeah, the reef shoppe (TRS) is pretty good and their employees are very knowledgeable. You might also want to check out:

Marine Oasis
5340 Ridge Rd West
Spencerport, NY
585-352-8718

or

Carribean Forest
24 Bursen St
Rochester, NY 14609
585-342-5510

As they are both marine specialty shops. Also, if you're ever out down the interstate to Buffalo, make sure you check out:

AquaTech
4700 Genesee St
Cheektowaga, NY 14225
716-565-0700

In my personal oppinion, biased as it may be, Aquatech has the best selection of livestock around. The shop isn't all frills and somewhat minimalistic in its appearance but the tanks are in impeccable shape, the hardware is top quality, and the employees are so knowledgeable and friendly its scary :). Everything in there was bought or made by guys with 10+ years of saltwater experience under their belt. And Randy and Jason keep that place stocked to the gills with fish and corals (pun intended :hey: ).

And dont let me forget, we're having a local meeting and frag swap at Aquatech on sat 23rd (next weekend) from 12-6. Jason is even being kind enough to feed us all :D You should definitely try and make it if you're free.

Heh, yeah I'm always in for free food :D. Even if you can only make it for a little bit, I'd encourage you to come. Our fragswaps are great fun and extreme learning experiences.
