Fish Im Not Supposed To Have

How could a catfish live as year in a unheated and unfiltered tank for a year with no food severina?
I know thats such a lie. And how can u not see the catfish for a year?
Plz dont lie ... cuz u are horrible at it :p

I lost a cory for 6 MONTHS, in a 10G starter tank. I thought he died and decomposed.
One day whilst redecorating I found him alive under a decoration.
Mind you, this was in a 10G.
I believe it.
If it was an algae eater, and the tank was in sunlight, algae would be caused, so the catfish could indeed survive.
I believe her.

I think the sum of everyones thoughts- ok maybe its possible-rare but possible for that catfish to survive-if what Ethos said did happen but WHAT is a tank full of water and a possible dead fish doing sitting around for a year AND a day?

They could have just stopped going into the room for months on end, and just left the tank thinking I'll do it tomorrow but that tomorrow didnt come for over a year!

I've been meaning to sort out all my old stuff for years and get rid but still haven't got round to it! It took me over six months to get my old tank cleared out! I spent alot of my summer looking about for a small tank to temporarily house my fish whilst I sorted out the large one! But didnt find one until just before x-mas! And trust me the tank was rank but still had some fish alive in it! I have a feeling that my dad occasionally fed the fish and turned out the lights, but didnt clean the tank or anything! Still had 10 fish alive behind the wall of algae!

Pleased to say though that my new tank isnt being neglected and all fish from the old tank are still alive! Even though I didnt exactly cycle my tank! Hadn't heard of cycling until after I'd found this site! Did leave tank set up for over 24 hours before adding fish, think I must have brought some bacteria from the old tank though as put in a piece of the old bog wood and an ornament from the tank whilst it was sorting itself out for 24 hours! (I now know it was stupid of me to have done so)!

Haha! This reminds me of the first tank I had when I was little...all the fish had died so the tank just sat there with water and one day over a year later we saw movement in the tank..and the catfish was still alive. We didn't see him in the tank when the rest died so we figured he'd been eatten, but he was still alive. :p

It appears that the catfish wasn't seen for a year - so they didn't leave the tank with a dead looking fish in it - they thought it had been eaten.

you mean siamese fighting fish? like in my sig?
in which case you're not meant to keep males and females together, the male kills the females, and if less than 4 females, the females will kill each other too.

i don't think bettas could have spawned and then just hatched in the tank, could they??

hi just thought i would say i have never had a problem keeping 1 male betta in a tank with several females,

i have no idea what the fry could be

I thought silverfish where just insects that crawl about in damp places!

From what I remember as a child the silverfish used to leave a silvery powder on my fingers kinda like a butterfly or moth does! Or am I thinking of something else also called a silver fish?

Been years since I've seen one though

well there definitly big enough to identify now they are zebra danios
