on a thread about joining 2 tanks as one someone mentioned a fish highway a quick search on google came up with some amazing pictures, i noticed a link also to someone who made a simple bridge from one tank to another...........heres my idea

ive got a 15G and a 2G now could i upturn the 2G withing the 15G then balance it on some upturned bricks, obviously using some protection so glass isnt damaged the end result would be 2G of water sitting above the normal water line, the only implication i can think of at presant is water changes (id have 2do a litre at a time :X )

That is one of the most interesting ideas ive seen in a long time, dont think i have the diy skills to put it in to practice though knowing me ide flood the place  Dont fancy the water changes myself though.
over all i think its a great idea let me know if you ever get it up and running.

That is a crazy idea but i like it. It would alot of hard work tho. how would the water get into the highway tho if its above the water line?

i would love to pull that off :/ but i definatley don't have the skills to do it, i would want to do the 'water bridge' idea between my small tanks, so a tunel went from one to another, then another went from that tank to another etc.

i would like to see your idea tried out though :)

:good:

That is such a cool idea!!! Might even get my other half to have a bash at it!! It reminds me of the rotastack system I had for my hamster when I was ickle! :hyper:

the fish in your sig looks like he can caope without

at the moment my 2 gallon is in use but i still fancy suspending it upsidown above the main tank

i MIGHT do this when i get my 20 gallon MIGHT but its really cool

It could be easily pulled off with arlic cant spell or Fiber glass.

1 problem if the water lines arent even it will start gussing rapidly to the other tank and you would have wasted all your time

if you were to build a fish highway thing of the actual weight of all that water hanging from your ceiling i know when im older and hopefully got alot of money to water the highway would be awsome along with the tanks mounted in the wall

submerge the 2g totally so its full, flip it upside down whist it is stil underwater then lift the base of the 2g above the waterline. the weight of the water will make this heavy so make sure it is seated on something strong and not able to be disturbed by and fish that move substrate etc.

bare in mind that if the structure were to topple could your tank support an extra 2 gallons without overflowing?

also worth mentioning that the water in the raised section would be static and a small pump line fed into this section would be advisable to keep the water fresh in there!

when doing a water change obviously if the water level dropped below the 2g tank the water would pour out of this and it would need re filling.

Give it a try, and maybe reduce your tanks waterlevel so that a spill wont overflow your main tank first!

why not make abrige that goes into itslef, its useless but probably really fun to watch

Hi all, dunno who can answer this but here we go...would the bridge work if i used a bit of plastic hose pipe like the pipe on a gravel cleaner but wider?...i tested it quickly using my gravel cleaner pipe and it kind of worked but the pipe was not totally filled with water..maybe because its quite long and was abit twisted

you should stick to thicker pipe, depending on the size of your brige i think 6 inches is the most you should go the LFS or hardware store would have soemthing but the lfs nto so much not good big ones TINY ones like a fry bridge
