Fish Directory

Hey

I think that the UK Fish Directory's is pretty pointless ATM. There are just pages and pages of peoples local LFS's but i personally don't want to pick through 100's of posts to find the ones near enough for me to visit

I know that this would take alot of work but i think it would be an asset rather than a waste of forum space if we could get it sorted into different regions.

Like all Midlands bunched in together, then all London's and so on. That way you can click on the thread and click on the area that relates to you?

When i finally start taking my driving lessons and pass my test i plan to do a big fish shop tour around most of the west midlands to see where are the best places. The fish directory would be pretty useful for this but like i said i don't want to go through 11 pages to find the ones that apply to me.....?

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Well if you look at the first pages, yo can see that Ben has already started sorting / grouping them. I'm sure the rest will come in time, but since that thread has been pinned again for the past few weeks, a lot more has recently been added. Guess you can offer Ben to help with it if you wish

You are right, I think the intention was good to start with, but it quickly got inundated with more and more posts, some of which bore no relevance to the original format.

With the correct layout (what ever that may be), I think it would be a very good tool, the only trouble is, a lot of it is subjective. Even if 10 people say that a fish store is rubbish, I will still want to see it for myself. Plus you get into the area of what is and isn't libelous when it comes to reviews of stores.
However, if you start limiting the reviews people can give, then its becomes no different to the Yellow Pages.

Then (finally) there is the option of location and searching - I live on the Surrey/Hampshire border, but searching under either of them could give me somewhere local, or somewhere a day trip away on the south coast!

Personally, I think the ideal layout would be a whole new subforum, with sections by postcode area, into which people put their reviews of LFS to an agreed format (think the fish index, but for shops).
However, given that this would take a lot of mod time, and we are an international forum, I don't think its neccesarily workable.
