I don't know about vortechs but it is always adviseable to get 2 powerheads for alternating and better flow I believe

250 litres x (at least) 20 = 5000
So, although this appears to be an appropriate flow rate for your size tank, Imo it isnt if you are only having one. The manufacturer is stating a 50 gallon tank, however they fail to mention if that is before the live rock is in or not! If you are having one, go for the bigger one, by the way a very good choice if you have the money
Ive seen the 10 working in a tank of approx 125 litres, it was perfect, but just think your tank is slightly too big
My LFS had a 10 given him by Vortech to test and he was going to lend to me to try in my reef as I was thinking about a 10 instead of a 40 and moving the 40 to the FOWLR, but 1 x 10 would definitely not be enough. The 40 is great but would be interested if you went for 2 x 10's. The 10's have a lovely small footprint in the tank.
My problem is that the reef is next to my sofa so I wouldn't want a pump each end, the 40 is at the opposite end and muffled by the wall and some long curtains otherwise I would have considered 2 x 10's. Some nice options for flow patterns with 2 x 10 too.
Ok well i think SPS and Clams might be just a tad too tough for me so i was wondering would this fixture: http/www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3733+13822+22636&pcatid=22636#BVQAWidgetID be sufficient for softies and LPS?
Still have a long way to go. i just have a couple questions i was wondering would it be better to get 50 pounds of LR or 75? getting a great price on either
If your tank is 46 US gallons, then you want approx 20 kilos for your tank
1 also would this CUC work?
2 Peppermint Shrimp - fine
2 Emerald Crabs - just have one
1 Arrow Crab - forget this one
1 Skunk Cleaner Shrimp - fine
8 Blue/Red/Halloween hermit crabs - far too many, start off with a couple, you can always add more
6 Nassarius snails - fine, I would probably add 10 or 12
5 cerith snails - too many for a new tank
4 turbo snails - if the small ones, fine
1 tuxedo urchin - not until tank is a bit more established
1 fighting conch - fine, when more established

Yes, for most soft and lps such as euphyllia, however, can I suggest getting a unit with six tubes
Its a standard 55 gal tank btw I'm not sure how to change the title of the journal. Anyway I'll look into 6 tube lights although I'm worried it would hang over the tank sides.

To change the title, go to the first post, press edit, go to near the bottom and you will find - full editor, click on that and bingo :goo:
a 55 US gallon would require approx 23/25 kilos
