Fires in LA

For anyone in the fire zone, if your house wasn't built specifically to survive a wildfire, and you have never been in a wildfire, get out of the area at least 24 (preferably 48) hours before the fire gets to your suburb. Don't wait until the last minute, get out early. Pack up whatever you can (clothes, pets, computer, insurance info, etc), go and stay with friends or family in a different area.

For anyone who has never been in or near a fire storm, the sky goes black and the air fills with smoke. The wind picks up and the fire creates its own weather. It rains ash. The skyline glows red and yellow and the fire makes a horrendous roar. Things crackle and break and the heat is seriously intense. If you are in the vicinity of the fire you need to get away asap because it will cook you in minutes.

Anyone who has to be near the fire should avoid wearing acrylic (man made) fabrics because they tend to melt onto your skin and do more damage than cotton or wool clothing. You should also wet your clothes thoroughly if going out near it and wear a respirator and safety glasses. Better still just get out of the area and leave it to the professionals.

When wildfires are out of control, nobody should be near them. The people in the fire department are literally putting their lives on the line to try and stop this fire and they deserve a round of applause when it's done.

My son lives in the Hollywood Hills. Fires are a few blocks from his home. He won’t evacuate until the officials order it for his neighborhood. I wish he would leave now.

I was watching the coverage on the national news and I could scarcely believe what I was seeing . A city on fire and the firemen running out of water and helpless . They interviewed a man sitting on a curb whose home of sixty years is gone ! I saw that and determined that I have no troubles at all .
