Fire Bellied Newts

I responded to your male and female question in the other chinese fire belly thread.

Online I have read about keeping 2 newts in a 10 gallon tank, and 3-4 in a 20 gallon tank; however the lady in the shop (who owns some) said that she wouldn't recommend more than two together....I don't know though.

I think boboboy said japanese fire bellys don't like "land"

lol, no the other way around. chinese firebellys, spending much time on land. means you have water problems. or....... have made a incorrect id.

Well,im thinking of getting a female newt so they can lay eggs in some years and umm yea pretty much. Im going to a place were they can add something too the bottom of my tank cause the floor of my tank might explode if i dont. The rocks im using is heavy. My wife disagrees but,how much water should i put? how much inches? my wife says 3 inch but I think shes wrong. Oh and,for some reason,my chinese firebelly loves the water.

It's good your newt loves the water; my chinese one seems to like floating but not swimming down. I've got abot 4-5 inches in at the minute, but they are only small. I think some people put up to 9inches in.

Apologies boboboy I mis-remembered what you had said to me :)

lol, no need to apologise, :hyper: . just as long as we get it out there! :good: . i kept, about 10-11 inches of water. but only so the outlet from the filter, was at water level. they like little flow. indeed, the would love stagnant (not to be confused with feted) living quarters. keeping the outlet, where i do, gives me flow, but less water disturbance.

I have an undergravel filter with mine; but I have the outlet directed towards the back of the tank so it has a waterfall effect. It doesn't cause much flow but does cause a little surface distrubance.

I'm not at home this weekend buy my mam said that the smaller of the two newts (she thinks) ate properly :)
