Finding Nemo fishtank

'Finding Nemo' has introduced more people to the hobby of keeping aquarium fish. This could be a good thing in the long run if people learn some basics of fishkeeping. With more public awareness of issues relating to the hobby, it is more likely our voice will be heard and followed on important matters. We should thank little Nemo and use his popularity for good rather than villify him.

I say blame the fish stores, not the movie, parents, or children if they sell fish without educating their consumers.
Amen

Doggfather, I think you should go see the movie. Its really cute B)
anyways... I have to admit that I look at the tank, smile sadly and go 'oh, its Nemo'
Then I do a little silent prayer for the little fishes future life and go about my business. I know its annoying, I have been annoyed at the kids myself, but you have to admit Nemo - and all clown fish are really cute. Maybe in my future I'll have a saltwater tank, but until I KNOW everything I need to know about it, I'm not even going to try

I have seen in more than one lfs recently a little 10 - 15G starter tank, called a Nemo tank, with cartoon pictures of Nemo, Dory etc, but in tiny writing on the box is the wording "Coldwater fish only" I think it is made by Tetra but I could be wrong on that bit. So yes, blame the marketing people, and cycle riders.

hmmm ive seen those little fish tanks in the carboard boxes with pics of nemo on them too.....very misleading....some folks will do anything to sell sell with no regard to fish welfare...sad really.
ps: i loved the crabs & the seagulls in finding nemo...thought they were hillarious.
'gedd out of here' mate mate mate

its funny and cute but the cat looks P*ssed off
I second that question - I totally cacked up on that

Edit: It looks shaved to me, a Persian of some sort, left with feet, tail, head and paws unshaved.

I loved the Seagulls too. Now, can they live in freshwater or just saltwater? Not sure if my tank is big enough

i think it gives children and non fishkeeping parents the wrong idea.

I heard of a shop selling clowns as nemos
Yes, fish shops near my area sell them as nemos too. But they say clownfish next to them also.

hi modernhamlet an everyone...

well in my 13 (uk) gallon, i wasnt sure, because i didnt know which fish would take to the water better? but after visiting the pet shop, we saw the ones we liked.. We're probably gonna start off with some livebearers such as mollies. Are they good? we would just keep about 3 of those and possibly after a week of those add a few neon tetras. They told us to wait for the bottomsuckers until there was some algae and the ones that clean the glass. But we saw guppies and loved them, so maybe some of those after the tank is established. AND the most cool fish, a colourful fighting fish (is this a betta) -_-

We apparantley dont have a big enough tank for angelfish unfortunatley cos they look great. We're really reading up on different things so we try not to make any mistakes. The tank looks great now, lights, gravel, ornaments, rock an the plants look great in the corner with a place for the fish to hide....
any sugestions for fish would be great

One important question though (sorry to bore you)
We been reading the books and internet, and they keep mentioning AIRSTONES. Is this important, because the filter we have has a pump which hangs in the tank on suckers, the pipe sticks out and blows bubbles across the top,(no external pipes) and a little bit sticks out the top for air to come in, and the filter is a the bottom of the contraption. We bought all this in a starter kit, so i presumed there would be enough air for them
(I'm gonna post a new topic on this as well)

Mark :)

Some people may disagree with me, but I wouldn't recommend putting guppies and betta together, as one or both will get their fins shredded.

Deffinatley. When I was heating up my first Betta in his little bag he was looking at the Guppies flashy tails and counting down the seconds untill he could wipe the smile off the poncy Guppies face :D Unfortunatley for him he wasn't going in that tank though. he he.
