Hi All

I just came back from a weekend away to find my betta has a really bad case of fin rot. I noticed a little bit before I left, and now it has got really bad. It is about time for a full water change, so I will be doing this tomorrow. I have Melafix and aquarium salt. Any other suggestions on what I should do? It's a 1 1/2 gallon tank without filter. Water temp is about 75. Last change 3/19

He seems to be ok. He has not problem eating and is very active. He even has a really big bubble nest on one side of the tank.

Thanks!!

oh no! :( that's kinda sad! my betta's all partially suffer from fin rot.... i just bought 2 new ones and they have it :( i'm trying to treat them for it with melafix, but so far, nothing yet... then again i've only been doing it for a day or so *lol*

good luck with your betta's case of fin rot.... i hope that the treatment works well for you!!

Here is a pic of the little guy...you can see the back of the tail is really shredded. Thanks again for any help.

i'd suggest doing the melafix treatment for about a week and constant partial water changes... i'm not sure how many :( but 2-3 during the week? unless anyone else suggests other wise?

i have no idea when or how long fin rot will take to get better.... my fish have it a little but i want it gone... cause i'd really like to see their pretty fins:)

i use Myxazin, it is a five day treatment for any tropical fish with finrot, ulcers, sores and other bacterial infections

the good thing is though, it acts like melafix and it helps build back up their fins

hpoe he gets well soon :good:

thanks

paul

I use Myaxin too and and within a couple of weeks my little girls fins were all cleared up and re grown. Be sure to adhere to the instructions though as overdosing will kill them.

I am going to give the Melafix and aquarium salt a try. I am hoping that it hasn't got worse today. I haven't been home yet. Any idea on dosage? I believe the direction on the bottle are for larger tanks. Not smaller ones like mine.

Is it possible he is depressed? I was away for a few days, but, my moms came over and fed him.

maybe she overfed him? extra food rotting in the tank would mean more ammonia, fin rot is usually caused by poor water quality (ie too much ammonia) what do the direction say about dosage?

i'd use about 0.5mL in a 1 gallon.... no more than that.... best way to measure that out is a small medicine dropper or a medicine cup :) and for the aquarium salts... i'd use about a 1/2 teaspoon for 1 gallon

Ok, so the 100% water change is done. I added a rounded teaspoon of aquarium salt and not even 1/4 of a capful of Melafix. So, we shall see. He seemed a little less freaked out by this water change. Although he didn't want to come out for the water change.... :shout:

I don't think my moms overfed him because I told her only to give him a couple of strands of bloodworms... His fav.

I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed.
