Does anyone really know what the best lind of filtering is?

I have a 300l tank that is currently being filtered by a Fluval 4 plus. In a month or so I will have to move the tank (Big Job) and i was wandering whether or not to put in an under gravel filter.

Which one do you think is best or is using a combination of both the best thing?

Any Ideas?

I find that using 2 external filters each with a capacity of at least 2 thirds of the tank volume gives the best results as you can fill them with different medias, ugf's are practicaly obsolete these days and offer nothing that a external canister filter dosen't.

ugf's are not the way to go. like cfc said they are obsolete. also run a danger of, if not properly cleaned on a regular basis, raising the parameters of your tank. too much work and not enough of a benefit from it. also depends on the type of fish you are going to house in your tank. cichlids are diggers and the plantes become exposed which makes the ugf ineffective.

best filter that i have found is the magnum hot canister. also sand fiters are quite beneficial.

First of all I don't know a thing about canisters. Other than that, bio wheels, in my opinion are top of the line as they help in more than one way. They are easy to use, they filter well and help balance your tank.

Just my opinion. BTW anyone know of a cheep place to buy bio wheels on line besides ebay?

I have always used canister filters. They give you more options with media and they are easy to clean. I personally use a filstar 3.

Well I think I'll stick to using my Fluval 4plus. This is a canister filter and it seems to do the job. I had just heard that ugf was the more 'Natural' way to filter.

But there is one problem with canister filters, that is that they look awfull. Ive noticed that in the tank of the month photo's there is never a filter in sight. So whats the seceret? Do they just take them out or do they have a special way of hiding that big lump of plastic?

I don't really know what a bio wheel is (Mr Bink) but I'm sure there good.

Most people use external canister filters so all there is in the tank is the out take pipe which can easily be hidden behind a plant or ornament. You could try hidding the filter behind a big plant
