Hello. So i recently purchased my new Betta fish an introduced him to his tank today.

Is there anything wrong with this setup?

I wonder if possibly my filter is too strong for him? Because it seems like sometimes he kinda gets sucked back by it slowly, or if he's by it he has to swim quickly to get away from it. Or maybe it's just me?

Looks good. So long as the filter isn't blowing him all over the place and he has places he can get away from the flow, then he should be just fine.
In a new big tank, he has a lot more room to swim around now so he'll be able to build up those swimming muscles he probably wasn't able to use before.

Ah, okay, thanks! Is the filter being to strong ya think a reason why he keeps puffing out his face? That seems strange to me

Puffing out his face is flaring. They "flare" at things to show how big he is (i.e. in the wild they'd flare at another male; to make themselves appear bigger than they are).

Does the tank have a lid?

EDIT: If you hold a mirror up to the tank so he can see his reflection then he might flare at it.

Yes, it does.

My betta seems to be doing fairly well. He moves around a lot, but he sometimes just sits at the bottom of the tank. is this normal? If I place something like a tank decoration in front of the filter, will it shield the filter a bit from being so strong?

My one betta LOVES the bubbles.. It's crazy I had the pump on full speed when I put it in first time. He would go to the bottom where the bubbles came out and let the bubbles carry him to the top then go back down and keep on doing that haha.

it is quite common for Bettas to rest, My boys sit in there live plants, i couldn't see one of them one day and about had a heart attack

I actually had 2 of those filters in my old 5 gallon it was divided for a little with a male on either side each with a filter and they were good I just had a plant to break up the flow from the filter
