Hi I am just wondering what everybody feeds there plecs.

Mine get cucumber (weighted down),
Courgettes (weighted down)
algae wafers,
I tried carrot and they seemed to like it once it had been in the tank for a day.

Is there anything else that i can give them or that people have found that theirs like?

well you could try assorted food types and see if they take it. if they dont just remove them. simple

Hi,

I've had some success with a frozen peas/brocolli mixture.
I cook them, liquidise them, then make popcicles out of them in the icetray of the freezer.

The other fish love them, but whatever's left sinks to the bottom and is soon devoured by the plec.

Main foods are ;-
mussels, prawns, bloodworm
corgette - cucumber
JMC catfish pellets - Hikari Sinking wafers - algae wafers - tetra prima - tetra dorimin.

not all at once though :D

Can't really go wrong with carrot, in a scientific study to see if panaque maccus could survive on a diet of wood alone carrot (as a control??) acheived the greatest growth rates.
Which makes another point; that most plecos can and will eat soft woods. For certain pleco, like panaque, many fishkeepers consider this a must....

Sorry to hijack the thread, but what were the findings of the Panaque Maccus study?

Can my Clown Plec survive on a diet of just wood?

Andy :)

Yes.....
I'll try and find the links, they are in the Pleco sub-section in an earlier thread....
Edit; http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?s=&amp...t&p=1710219
First link goes into it in detail somewhat, although i'm sure there is more somewhere :dunno:
Anyhow, as far as i'm aware (which doesn't mean alot, mind you) all Panaques can survive on wood only diets.

Thank you all for posting your ideas and what you feed them.

I saw somebody else feeds their plecs sweet potato which sounds a good idea for them.

Should the carrot be boiled first if i am feeding it too them? I just put it in!

And Don Porter that is an awsum length to go to for your fish dude!!

When people have said they feed shrimp and things, what form do you mean? Like actual dead shrimp and prawns or what? Sorry if i am being thick here!!

Cheers

C

Not really, a little effort and you've enough for a couple of weeks. Mostly, I use what's left after Sunday lunch, but keep the yorkshire puddings for me. Don :good:

lol - poor things no yorkshires... not fair :D :D

we do the same with veg and prawns etc - we use old bloodworm bubble packs to put the mix in - then freeze. :)

thats a great idea as well Russell!! I will now be having pea ice cubes for my fish!!

Heaven knows what my wife is going to say!! she hates having the bloodworm in the freezer and thinks im mental the way i look after the fish!!

Never mind she probably has a point!

My pleco likes cucumber and spinach, algae wafers, flake food, and my amazon swords XD Haven't tried carrots... guess that's my pleco's dinner tonight.
