i have a barely used can of omega one african cichlid flakes. can i feed them to my rosy barbs as a staple food?

As a staple, I wouldn't. Cichlids are very different fish than barbs, and rather obviously have different nutritional needs.

If you want to use the food, however, once or twice a week should be fine. My fish get a wide variety of foods to ensure that the entire spectrum of nutrition is met. i.e. one day they get a veggie flake, another day the hikari food, the third day omega one food, etc. If you use the cichlid food in a rotation like that, it will be fine. But I don't think that I would feed only cichlid flakes because of the lack of variety of nutrition.

but i remember sending an email to omegasea.net a while back asking a similar question. they replied by saying that most of their fish food have the same ingredients. so is it ok to feed it to my rosy barbs as the staple flake/dried food?

Please don't take this as me being offensive, or mean, or anything like that... But, just because you asked the exact same question, what makes you think I am going to change my answer? If you already had your mind made up, why even bother asking the forum? I gave you my opinion and the reasons behind my opinion, you have free will, you can do whatever you please.

i may have asked the same question, but this time i asked it with a NEW piece of information - namely, that omega one uses similar ingredients in most of their fish foods. instead of replying to that NEW piece of information, you simply dismissed and lambasted me.

But it wasn't new information to me, I did know that. But, it isn't exactly the same ingredients, otherwise there wouldn't be specific cichlid flakes and regular flakes -- they would be regular flakes for all fish, cyprinids, characins, cichlids, catfish, etc.

And my intention was not to 'lambast' you, that is why I started the post with "Please don't take this as me being offensive, or mean, or anything like that... " I meant that when I wrote it. I wasn't trying to be mean, I was trying to point out that asking the same question over and over is not going to change my answer.

If you were looking for other opinions, that was not clear. It looked very much like you were asking me a direct question in response to what I wrote. And it looks very much like you has already made up your mind on what you were going to do, and were just seeking confirmation for someone on the forum, and now you are annoyed that I didn't agree with you. But, like I said, do whatever you want, since I can't stop you. I can only pass along my opinion.
