feeding live mice to arro

i do watch the nature programmes and like to see how animals hunt down prey in the wild, but feeding your fish live rats isnt natural behaviour. more often than not wild animals can escape from the fish but that rat would have drowned anyway as it had nowhere to go.
notice how its mostly men who get pleasure from this

That video is revolting, and I hope that person gets what is coming to him.

In my mind, feeding live mammals to other animals, whether it is fish, snake, lizard, whatever is wrong and it should never be practiced.

Of course you can't prevent a cat from catching and killing things, but there is no reason on this earth why you can't feed frozen mice to snakes or fish, if you must feed them these at all. (Obviously not snakes, they have to eat these!)

I don't mind feeding crickets to lizards for some reason? But I wouldn't do it i there were no need. I don't actually do it anymore though.

Is it just me or did that video make people want to throw up and cry?

it always seems to come down to this but a good predactor barely ever misses a meal when they go for it.

Animals in the wild have no choice but to kill. You have a choice over what your fish eat, so there isn't any reason why you should feed them live animals.

I noticed that all the ladies are disgusted by the video, and the idea of feeding mamals to fish but you are quite right, the men do seem to enjoy it more.

I cry when I am watching the discovery channel and see a lion take down a gazelle or something. :-( Heck, I even cry on Lion King when Mufasa dies. :-( I can't watch that movie hehe. I clicked on the video above though just out of curiosity, but clicked off of it after about 5 seconds. I have kept mice before as pets and they are the cutest little things! I can't imagine ever feeding one to anything. When I worked at the LPS my friends Shawn and Bobby worked in the reptile area and you can pay $1.00 to feed a live mouse to a crocodile that they have there, or a snake. But they just drop the mouse into the water and let it swim around. Luckily, the crocs never touch the mice. The ONLY time I watched, the feeder mouse jumped on top of the crocs snout/mouth to get out of the water. The crocs didn't even pay attention to it. I am sure they were just too stressed out to do anything. They were about 2 feet long and kept in a small tub of water. They couldn't even swim in it. Basically it was like a metal kiddy pool filled with water. Then they had area to get out and walk around in the cage. It was sad. :/

Then they fed the mouse to a snake and I was out of there! I could always tell when they were feeding a mouse to something because I worked in the small animals and fish most of the time so I was like right next to the reptiles and could hear the men screaming "OHHHH!" "AHHHHH!" "WOAHHHH!"

On the front page someone posted it.

I don't know what it is, but it seems as if some people think that certain living things have less of an importance on this earth. For instance, people go to the pet store to get live crickets for their other animals to eat. Do you think those crickets don't go through horror and pain when they're being eaten? How about the ants we all smoosh on the sidewalk?

I guess the value of each of those LIVING beings is deteriorated because they weren't born human.

Most of my family and friends think I'm rather psychotic about animals (and I AM), however - I could care less if we're talking about a tiny little worm, mice, crickets, WHATEVER - each and every living thing breathes and as it takes its last breath I can't even begin to imagine the horror and pain it feels just before it dies.

Let's relate this to us humans - how much fun do you think it would be to be eaten by a shark?

Point made.

That's digusting couldn't even watch it to the end, poor little thing, right going for a cry now.

and i wonder Paul how many times on these nature shows how long the cameramen have had to wait for an animal to be in the right place to get the shot they need, i bet for every rat eaten by piranha 20 have survived. more predators lose what they are after, than what they kill. and i bet the best cat in the world doesnt have a 100% strike rate.

still doesnt make it right though feeding live animals to others when its not needed.

I feel bad whenever there is like a water bug that crawled into the house and someone in my family kills it. I scoop them up and put them outside. I even feel bad when I kill an ant by accident. :p There is a daddy long legs spider that lives in the top corner of the ceiling in my shower...I can't kill him so he's been there for about a year now. He is my friend. :p People think I am crazy and my little sister always teases me and says, "I killed your spider when I was taking a shower." I get all sad but I know she would never kill him.

LOL
You are just like me.
I always say "Don't kill him - what'd he do to you?"

I cried at Nemo - I cried for days after.
I cried at Lion King, ALSO cried for days afterward.
Heck, i even cried at the Iron Giant. It was a robot - a CARTOON robot.

eek.

I got said when watching nemo, but I didn't cry because at the end nemo found his dad. :p

lol - no realy, I understand you - I'm like that too with not killing things - I won't even kill mosquitos :p But I don't have a problem with feeding live foods - be it mammals or otherwise - provided it is done humanely and provided it is absolutely necessary for the health of the animal being fed. By humanely I mean to feed already dead animals (so no drowning live mice!) or to feed something small that will be eaten immediately so wont suffer (like worms). I also don't have anything against feeding fish fry (only young ones though). Also, feeding lizards, snakes etc live foods is fine as most require this to survive. As for doing this for fun - that's just sick. Would you throw your pet dog into a pool of piranhas just to watch it being ripped apart? Well rats are just as intelligent as any small dog... I'd probably rank a dog in intelligence with a young child - would you throw the child in?
