Feature Fish

glad to hear it, hope it works out for you :good:
He said I can take them back, but he also said that theyll be fine in a 240 litre tank and theyll only grow to about 8 inches.......

i would just say never listen to the people in your LFS cos remember they want you to buy and some of them know nothing about fish apart from what they have learned on an hours training course .

I would be really surprised if he will give you any money back , go back and say to him that you want a written guarentee that they will take them back when they get too big ---- cos they will .

The best thing to do is to research the individual breeds yourself before you get them and also ask for advice and take it onboard as a lot of people on this forum have been keeping fish for years and they know a lot more about them then some kid in your LFS

you may well be right, the OP may well not listen to us, but that's not any justification for condoning behaviour which is cruel and likely to result in the death of a living animal.

I'm sorry, but if '#### happens' is your attitude to a fish's life then i think you're in the wrong hobby.

err excuse me, im not the one overstocking my tank, and yeah #### DOES happen, all the time in fish keeping... but your ranting on here isnt going to change the world....neither are your attacks at me.

ok, here's several sources that say otherwise

fishbase is widely accepted to be the single most accurate place to find out basic info, it's not always aimed at aquarists but there's some info of use to us and it's normally much more accurate than a website made by just 1 person, usually an aquarist with limited experience and no qualifications in marine sciences. bear with the speed it's slow but it does work.

here's our own fish profile

here's a number of other links chosen at random from google.

just do a bit of research via google and you'll find much the same as this

general consensus is for them to thrive and do well they'll need a 5x2x2 or 6x2x2

I'm going to take them back after work.

Any suggestions on what I could swap them for?

In my tank I currently have;

6 Mollies (2m 4f)
2 Bristlenose Plecos
4 Julii Corydora
10 Golden Barbs
3 Kuli Loaches
2 Bolivian Rams

Theyre all small fish, I know the plecos will get bigger, but none of the others are going to grow much more than they are now.

I want something which is noticeable and friendly :)

seb if you wanne keep them for abit keep them.
i had a florida gar about 6" in a 4foot until it doubled in size a few years ago,
sold it back for 5£ more than i bought it, and it was an interetsing experience caring for this fish.
more importantly i gave it back before it looked "too big" in the tank.

silver sharks are commonly sold as being comunity fish, and when small they look attractive and sharklike so people buy them not realising what they become.

if you want to hold onto them for abit go ahead, but please return them before damage is done as its only fair to the fish
