Hi,

Ive just got myself a Roma 240 litre and have put my mollies, corys, and barbs in it. The tank still looks areally empty and I wanted to get 1 or 2 large fish which i would call "feature fish" as theyre the ones people will look at and go "wow"

I was thinking of getting a pair of Silver Sharks. Ive seen two pairs locally. one in maidenhead aquatics for £40 for the pair, and one pair in a local shop called worcester aquatics and theyre £17 for the pair.

the pairs of both about the same size, id say about 10cm each, so i cant really see why theres such a massive price difference.

anyone got any ideas about any other fish i could get?

Silver sharks aren't the best feature fish, most of the time they are very skittish when no kept in groups.

What type of barbs are they?

And what's you pH and hardness like?

I like my Thorichthys ellioti, a couple of them would be nice :).

There's loads of cichlids that could be very nice.

A couple of keyhole cichlids would be nice, they dont get very big.

I wouldnt get the sharks, as said, they are skittish, prefer to be in larger groups ^6+, also would outgrow your tank quickly, they are best of in a 6ft tank.

You could always go with a nice large shoal 6ish of rainbows, colourful active and peaceful :)

With regards the sharks, as Minx said - I wouldn't bother. And most cichlids that will live in a community tank are pretty small and wouldn't stand out in a 240L tank.

What sort of barbs have you got?

I like Minx's idea about the rainbows, one of the bigger flavours. Or some Opaline Gourami's maybe.

Depends on what the barbs are, but angelfish, festivum, port acara, blue acara, kribensis are safe bets.
There's a lot of less commonly seen (but not exactly rare) cichlids that would be safe too, like Thorichthys ellioti I mentioned.

A few could very well work, but would be a case of hit or miss, like firemouths.

Most of those you've mentioned I was under the impression would work in a larger, robust community (with fish like barbs) but wouldn't necessarily work with alot of more general community fish - tetra's, guppies etc - especially the angels, and kribs are again a bit too small for a community tank.

I don't know a great deal about most of the fish you've mentioned though so I'm not in a position to argue.

The OP has mollies, corydoras and barbs though, and wanted silver sharks.

Those cichlids are no worse than silver sharks when it come to small fish like guppies and tetras.

So they are good options IMO :).

So is a shoal of rainbow fish, would look brilliant.

Kribs are a bit small though actually, your right.

imo that tank is no way even close to being big enough for those sharks, a tank double your size would be on the small side to be honest, as i think they are better in larger groups, but hey thats just my opnion, good luck.

Once they're too big I'll give them back to the shop and trade them for something else :)

They seem happy enough.

totally agree with you (nice avatar by the way :good:  awesome race this weekend!!)

the silver sharks will get to 16" long which is too big for your tank, they need to be in a large group and without that they will quickly becomes stressed and skittish, this will stress out all the other fish in your tank. Bad choice, you should take them back to the store.

dont you think its wrong to buy fish that you know you cant keep long term
scot :(
I will most likely buy a much bigger thank in the near future.

Just bare in mind, they grow pretty fast and you might have to update sooner than you think.

To MissWiggle, those blokes in red overalls make me laugh more and more as the weeks go on   go lewis :good:
