External Filter Media? Help

Hi I have currently got my fluval 305 external filter set up with only the sponges supplied and some biomax. There are three compartments in the filter the bottom compartment I have sponge, the middle compartment has the biomax in and the top compartment is currently empty. Any recommendations on what media to put in the top final compartment?

fill it with any ceramic media like biomax etc then add a layer of floss on the top to catch any smaller particles that manage to get through the rest of the sponges etc
