External heaters connect onto the filter hose that is going back into your tank. Hydor make the best ones there is.

you can just have the externals output nozzle plaed near the surface to create disturbance.

Nobody has mentioned Hydor's Prime 10, 20 and 30 offerings regarding external filters?

Hydor also do inline heaters but I think the smallest wattage they do is 300w?

No I don't work for Hydor :)

Lol cheers applecart I'll look in to those. I'd prob get the 300w anyway but I love the idea of keeping as much out of the tank ad possible and not having to worry about things touching the internal heater, like plants

I called in last year and really liked it. Was a git to find but a nice suprise once I was in. Kids didn't enjoy the visit as much as they just wanted to get to the campsite.

lol yeah I've heard good things about it, I need to get down there sometime. Maybe when I'm ready to stock a bigger tank ;)

I have the Hydor Prime 30... Waaaaaaaaaay too fiddly when you need to get into the filter for anything which is a shame as the filter itself easily keeps up with my 305. I like the pipework and size/shape of the 30, just the dated design that puts me off it.

Are you guys next to North Lake Aquatics then?

Erm.... bad news folks... NLA are online only now since Bowmans wanted the building they where renting NLA back, so they could use it once again to stock and sell carpets from :(

NLA are still looking for new premises, but currently have no live stock, just selling hardware and dry stuff online.

http://www.northlakesaquatics.com/ <- just tried and appears closed currently.
I hope it's not a permanent closed!
