OMG I hadn't heard about this.
Thats not good news for anyone involved.

Off I go to research generators

Me and my mate built our own A,T,S (automatic transfar switch) it switches over to a battery witch will power an inverter , its cheaper then everythink out there so far! you can use as meny or as little 12v car batterys and also depending on how big your inverter is how long and much stuff you can run :D

Just an idea if your worried

eh???

The 900 jobs lost were at an oil refinery not a power plant....

Oil will be produced at the same level as previous and it is likely they will employ new people anyway. The current 900 have been given til monday to re-apply for their jobs. They were sacked because they did a un-official walk out.

Yes I know .....
But read into it further it says power workers may come out in sympathy with them.

You would think they were grateful to have jobs at all in the current climate! I feel another winter of discontent is just over the horizon :(

 well, that's an interesting comment! The point these workers are trying to make is that foreign labour, which is cheaper, is being used instead of the local labour force. They are trying to save jobs :good: yes their action is illegal, wild cat strikes have been illegal for some years, but have you never felt so strongly about something that you be willing to cross the line (and I don't mean a picket line)? Foreign companies like TOTAL set up Business' here in Britian and then bring in cheap labour from abroad and yes before anyone says it, we are in a Common market place in Europe but in an economic crisis who can blame the workers at TOTAL for wanting local jobs for local people - I would say, 'up the workers' :good:

but yes, I am concerned about power cuts BigC  you only have to look back a short way in to our history to see what can happen in an economic crisis

I agree with seffie.
People are willing to risk there jobs.
For UK workers.

I say UP THE WORKERS!

I also agree, total which is a French company would not be able to get away with doing that in France, before you knew it the French farmers would be blocking the ports and the motorways.

Foreign companies alway fire first in the uk because of or weak labour laws, and before anyone has a go I employ 10 people myself.
