Empty Media Buckets. What Should I Fill Them With?

Morning,

I'm running a Fluval 305 but currently only have 2 of the 6 media buckets full (with the ceramic biomedia that comes with the filter). What else should I place in there to increase surface area for bacteria or help improve the clarity of the tank water?

More biomedia of some sort (if so, what type/brand)?
SEACHEM PURIGEN? Heard this is great for achieving crystal clear water.
Filter floss?
Anything else you could suggest?

Purigen is IMO the best filter media for clarity. I didn't think my water could get clearer, but it did. It lasts ages as well. So for the initial layout of a tenner, its well worth it.

does it come contained in its own bags or will I need to buy some seperately? I'm assuming the small granule size means I will need a bag.

You can buy it in a bag, you can also buy the granuals. I got the bagged version, its for aquariums up to 400ltrs

I willl second what Ian said. I also use the purgin and wow my tank looks like it is filled with air not water( it really is that clear)
In my 305 I have
Filter floss in the bottom 2 buckets going to remove them soon tho as they are not needed now I have the purgin
Next I have a bag of the ammonia remover( no longer needed but it has lots of surface area
Next to that is the purgin
And then the top 2 buckets contain the bio rings
Soon I will replace it all with just the bio rings and save a bucket for the purging(again it really is that good)
I am currently just using what I am using as it came free with the fillter

is purigen the one you can clean in bleach solution to revive it?

yeah, it'll last about 3 months. Then you soak it in bleach for 24 hours and then in dechlor for another 24 hours and it re-charges itself. You can do this about 10 times before it becomes usless.

It's up to u really pal. Just start of with the bio and purgin and then see what's what
