Agreed, especially if he seems to be handling it well... BUT if he does not get better and seems to be getting slower and weak you may have to...
I can't physically bring myself to do that

Yes, he is acting like nothing is wrong, happily eating and swimming around. If he starts acting poorly I know I will have to think about it, I really don't think I can go through with it though.Agreed, especially if he seems to be handling it well... Over 3 weeks since he began showing symptoms. It’s been 2 weeks now..? Not a pleasant task, but probably the kindest thing you can do for him.
He has been with me since I was a teenager, I will not ever be getting another fish after he passes. I really don't think I can. Besides him being special to me, I do not take death lightly. I have trouble being ok with euthanasia at the best of times. The only times i've killed things is when I see a slug or a fly or other bug suffering, and even then it makes me sick.End his misery, it's awful but better than him suffering...we've all had to do it at some point in our fishkeeping journeys unfortunatelyjust part of having animals
I had to put my dog down this year because he was suffering and there was nothing I could do to help him....it was one of the hardest things I've ever done and it still haunts me....but I'd do it again and again because I don't want my animal to suffer when I could make it stop .....He has been with me since I was a teenager, I will not ever be getting another fish after he passes. Thank you for your kind words. You are very brave. I have been researching how to euthanize him. I have come across the clove oil method. Some people say to freeze the fish after the clove oil, some people say use vodka. I don't know which is more humane. I couldn't bare it if he woke up because I didn't do something properly. I don't know if I can do it but I at least want to know the most humane and surefire way so that when it comes to it I do it right.I had to put my dog down this year because he was suffering and there was nothing I could do to help him....it was one of the hardest things I've ever done and it still haunts me....but I'd do it again and again because I don't want my animal to suffer when I could make it stop .....
It's your choice at the end of the day, it's not up to anyone else. Do what you feel is best ❤
Honestly the most humane way believe it or not is to bash it over the headThank you for your kind words. You are very brave. I have been researching how to euthanize him. Thats so sad!! I've always heard of the clove oil method...Honestly the most humane way believe it or not is to bash it over the headmost of us can't do that so we use clove oil...I'm not experienced with it but I'm sure some of the others will be able to help there....do not freeze it!
My hubby does the euthanasia for me, he puts the fish between paper towel then either cuts the head off or just bashes the head in with a rolling pin...![]()
It is, but if you have the confidence, a hard hit to the back of the head is far more instant than anything else. You need to know you are going to be able to do it hard enough to work first time though…Thats so sad!! I've always heard of the clove oil method...
I couldnt though... Knowing the fish is looking at me seeing the weapon in my hand and then striking... The last thing the fish is going to see is you coming down on it not knowing why... Clove oil offers a peaceful transition into death and doesnt stress them...It is, but if you have the confidence, a hard hit to the back of the head is far more instant than anything else. Gross but usefulDon't bash a fish on the head if it has dropsy or is bloated because it is messy.
