Emergency..oscar Is Not Doing Well.....anyone Had This Problem?

Hi All,
 
I am helping my mom dealing her oscar that isn't doing well. He lost his tail....losing his color. I hope I can show you the pictures that I took. 
Mom has done everything she can to help him get better. She tried different med and change water alot. He started out with the fins getting white spots look like fungus. It went to all the fins and destroying them. She was told to use Melafix...tsp of liquid, 1cp of salt and raised temp to 82-84 every day. Do water change weekly unless the ammonia is high. She will have to do the water change earlier than weekly since she has two in the same 55 gal. tank. Let hope I can get the pictures in here. Its going to make your 

 

 

 

 

 

. Mom is very sad and she is so helpless and so is her fish. 
Also, I looked at the other orange oscar as you can see in the picture. This one has milky while on the fins too. Advise please!!!!!!!

Apparently my mom lost her fish an hour ago.

 She is concern with her next oscar. I tested the water a few mins ago.
 
Ammonia is 4.0-8.0 which is high shown green
 
Nitrate is zero which show light blue
 
She is draining and filling up the water. She is going to treat Melafix and add salt to the tank.
Is there anything my mom can do? She said her oscar is looking for him and is very sad. 
As you can see in the picture, the small oscar is developing the whites at the fins.

Thanks ncguppy830.  Its so sad. I looked at him today and was so surprised that the infection was eating him away. I do believe the ammonia took his life away. His body cannot fight it. He was fine and swimmin around yesterday and the day before. But again, I do think its the ammonia. I am waiting and hoping that the members who have oscars will be willing to give me all the informations about the whites invading the fins. I do not want to see this one going next as my mother can't handle losing her favorite fish. She had them for over a year and half. they are wonderful pets and do have great personality.

You NEED to change you water now. 4-8ppm ammonia has about the same effect as a hammer does on fish health.
 
Basically:
Turn off filter and heater
change as close to 100% of your water as you can
refill with similar temp
3X dose of Prime
turn back on heater and filter
retest ammonia and repeat if its over 0.5ppm
repeat this process at least daily until ammonia and nitrite is under control
 
Did she do anything to the filter prior to this issue? EX:cleaning, changing, replacing anything filter related???
What is basic tank maintenance in a week?
 
Sorry about the first oscar hope you can save the second one, unfortunately ammonia poisoning is permanent. (Hope mods let this post through, since your members with 1.7K posts are really damn knowledgeable)

change the water regularly,put a heater the water should be warm,monitor ur  fish now and then...it will be fine...

Ammonia poisoning isn't "permanent" I'm not sure what is meant by that. But yes you need to do multiple water changes. Remove as much water as you can while still allowing the fish to stay upright and refill with temperature matched, dechlorinated water. You will have to do this a few times possibly. 
 
The other option is to remove the fish to a bucket of clean dechlorinated water at the same temperature of the tank. Then do a 100% water change of the tank (with temperature matched, dechlorinated water) and add him back to the tank. 
 
The fin damage is probably from ammonia burns. Be sure to answer the questions above about the filter as well. Good luck!

could this be the result of fin rot? if so do as the other people say, lots of water changes and warm water.

ok...I will go and help my mom to save the second one. I think she change it weekly. I don't think she test it often. I think her test are old. I used my test and came to find it out the ammonia is high. I told her that what killed him since his fins are all white and falling off. I do believe the next one will have the whites showing up. Her top fin is showing white. Could it be fungus, fin rots, hitch. I have looked at lots of oscars pictures online last night. I will have to look at her again to verify it. 
About the filter, I don't know if she cleans it or not a lot or less. She told me at times that her filter was filled with slimes etc. 
I cleaned both of her filters the other day and seems to be ok. she didn't used carbon white treating the sick fish.

Prime is a dechlorinator that can be used, at a higher dose, to temporarily detoxify ammonia.

What filtration is your mum running on the tank, and how (exactly) did you clean the filters?

OK called my mom. she did a water change last night down to six inches as much as she can. Filled it up. Did not do anything to replace the filters/foam. She has Melafix to put in and the temp at 84 for now. Right now the fish is at the bottom of the tank being very quiet. I think the fish is deeply sad. 
I will have her get a new test to test it often for Ammonia and Nitrates. She will get Prime too. I will get back sometime for the water test today. Bare with me. Thanks for the advise.
