I recently purchased a betta fish for my daughter. Right now the betta fish in a 15 gallon tank, (My daughters had her for about three weeks) but today my 4 year old daughter woke up crying and told me she's missing loads of fins. I thought she was just overreacting but when I saw the betta I got completely lost! This was her when me and my daughter first got the betta:

But now she keeps acting dead. This is her:

She isn't dead but when she swims around her fins are wrecked:

What other fish are in this tank with the Betta? I see one panda cory in one photo, but are there other species? Reason I ask is, other fish are fond of nipping Betta fins, and the Betta in the photos is seeming to be trying to get away, hide. That suggests bullying.

There are only 6 panda Corys, a catfish and 6 snails.

What is the "catfish?" Cory are not likely to be bullying but sometimes they do get "playful" with upper level fiish, I see this frequently in my tank of 50 cories and tetras. I also believe that there is an issue with Betta fins fraying like this, but |I will leave that to the more experienced Betta keepers. But I will stress that a Betta should always be the sole fish in an aquarium; it is not a community species.

It's not a catfish, it's a bristlenosed orange pleco, I got the names mixed up. The plec normally hides wherever he can fit, so he's definitely not been hurting the betta.

It's actually the opposite way, when the betta feels like it he will nip the Corys. The corys don't even go near the betta, unless they find a nice bit of algae. The Corydoras are actually pretty scared of the betta, that's why when his fins where wrecked, I got so confused because no one would dare to attack the betta!!!!!!

I can't tell from the photos, but are all the betta's find shredded or just the tail?
And also, in your first post you say it is a female betta, but in your last post you say 'his fins'. Is the betta male or fmale? I have to say that the fins do look quite big for a female.

If it is just the tail fin that is shredded, the betta could have done it. Tail biting is not unknown, usually caused by the betta being 'bored', that is, in a tank with little in the way of decor

There are plenty things you can try but let's make it step by step:
- Separate her into another tank (smaller) with low water level (2-5 inches)
- Do not need air pump (the flow created may cause stress, Betta can live well without it)
- I did not see fungus signal on her body and fins however you can use some: salt (the one without iodine) + tear ~ 2inches piece of Indian Almond dry leaf.
- Leave her and the tank into the quite place and DO NOT feed for few day
- Keep updating her every day

Try then and hope these may help

One more thing about the shredded fins, your decorations may cause it when she's swimming. I think those are plastic since it appeared quite colorful in your photos.

It's a male, all its fins are shredded. It's swimming fins, tail fins and fins above head are all shredded.

Sorry for your loss! Tetras and rasboras would do amazing in your soft water tank. But they need 6+. You would have room for more than that too. In my opinion, I love glowlights. Don't confuse them with glofish, not the same at all! But they are pretty hardy. Very amazing fish and I love their little breeding behavior dance they do. One thing to note, after lights out their color will fade so when lights come on they won't be as bright for a little bit. No worries unless they stay that way. Another good way to tell if water quality is off or not too. But I definitely recommend!
