Anyone got one of these filters or heard if they are any good? Apparently they also heat the aquarium and give a digital display of the temp....very nice . For my aquarium (190 litres) you are talking nearly £200 so not cheap!! Although I have seen the eheim filter without the built in heater for £111. However, I am a sucker for gadgets and technology!!

just get the un-heated filter and spend £30 on a hydor inline heater :)

Hello Duke,
I was interested, too, and only gave up when I discovered that it's not suitable for salted water (I have brackish). I then bought its non-heated brother, Professionel 3 2073, which has been working like a swiss clock since then (but it's only less than a year!). As a heater, I got the inline Hydor device. Nice thing.

How would you rate the filter maurizio? I hear they are pretty much the best you can get. Can you see a difference in your water quality?

Well, this is my first tank, so I can't make comparisons with other devices. They are very well reputed, that's for sure, and being a beginner, I decided to go for them for this reason. After the cycle, water quality is quite stable, apart from the hell of nitrates I get from tap (around 40 mg/l), for which the filter is anyway helpless.

I can also confirm the known reviews on the impressive performance of the Hydor, set it to 25 C, the thermometer is locked to that value since I started the tank.

I have a 2076e, 2075, 2073 and ecco 300.

they are brilliant filters, never had any issues with them. Tanks are always spotless and the filters hardly need maintenance. All are running in the front room and are completly silent.

When Eheim came out with the infilter heaters for the Pro II line they discovered they had a problem when they were used with sw tanks. The solution was to developed a different heater for fw and sw uses.

I never want a heater inside my filter, it takes up space that could hold media. I have two Pro II 2026 and bioth have the inline Hydors. Love the setups. My Eheims have been running for just over and just under 10 years. They are as quiet as the day they were first plugged in and the only parts that wore out were the little white balls in the flow meter and the black rubber connecters where the intake connects to the top basket and then where that line connects between the top and bottom baskets. This does not seem to have had much effect on how the filters run. One of them had doubled as my co2 reactor as well.

I have seen plenty of threads on the net n fish sites where folks report they have 20+ year old Eheims still running great. Let me know the next time you see the same posted about any other brand of canister. :)

Read some great reviews about tetratec external filters too. In my 190 litre tank would it be best to get an external that has an increased flow say for between 200 and 450 litre tanks or something less say for between 100 and 200 litre tanks?

get the biggest you can afford :) the one in my 25litre nano is rated for 300 litre
