Its been a log time in the build up, but my mrs bristlenose finally layed her eggs...

not in one of the 3 tubes, not under the 2 bits of bogwood in there, not even under some of the plants, Oh no she layed them in the open on the gravel

Anyway I'm not sure what i should have done... i found Mr bristle nose sucking on them and with only 10-15 egg left in the cluster (and the prestilla's enjoying the rest) i decided to syphon the eggs out and evict the phantoms from the breeding tank...

After the times i've told people to leave the eggs alone - this seems a little ironic :(

Was Mr bristle eating them for a reason?
Was he just not sure of his roll in the upbrining of his offspring?

there are about 10 orange (fertilised?) eggs in the cluster and 3-4 clear (unfirtilised?) ones. Should i remove the unfertilised ones to minimise the chance of fungus?

To top it all off it had to happen today.. 7 weeks without work, the one day i go to work and help out my dad, she gets her act together

Any advice?

the eggs are currently stuck to a few bits of gravel in a plain glass bottomed tank.

Try and keep the water airated and keep it moving but not to fast, Once they start to breed they normaly keep doing it so it might not be ling before it happens again, best of luck.

I've turned the filter on its side so the eggs cant be sucked in (they arn't floating as they are attached to the gravel)
I've put a bit of bog wood in there for them to shelter under when they hatch (ok IF) with a bit of java fern attached.
I've also upped the air :)

fingers crossed.

Mr Bristlenose wasn't sucking them, he was airing them....this is a good thing....something only the father can do successfully....its probably too late now...but next time this happens...leave them be...he will take care of them!!

he was definatly sucking on them - he had them in his mouth... the tetras were also joining in.

It seems that they had been dragged out of their hiding place as they have now hatched in the breeding tank :D

there are about 8 little wiggly egg sacks :)
