Thats not to say they wouldnt take bolivians, you never know. Theyre just already quite common. The next step for me would be to ask the shops if they would buy any kinds of dwarf cichlid off you, and narrow it down from there to ones you like too. I really think apistos would be fun!

Also other fish that you may have ruled out mentally but still might be a good option - eg, you say no livebearers (personally I don't blame you) but there are more unusual and uncommon ones around than just guppies and platys etc, so they could still be sellable.

I'd love to set up some breeding tanks as a hobby but I think I'd stop enjoying it if I couldnt move the fry on at all!

the apistos are nice. To be honest im not really doing it for the profit.(ok a little bit) I just enjoy watching them grow. id happily enough give them away free on here if people paid postage for them. or collection

Cockatoos are apistogramma cacatuoides and would possibly be a good choice - they're quite common and popular but that makes them sellable I imagine.

Agassizi and borellii might be worth a look too.

There's some nice choices there. Just deciding now what one to go for.

Apistogramma are not easy to breed, Stunning, yes! Their courtship is so interesting you want to watch it from start to finish, despite the fact that it can carry on for days. But they are not necessarily easy to breed. With their popularity apistos are starting to be bred from the same gene pool in a lot of cases so to give yourself the best chance I'd pick the pair which is most appealing to you and research taking particular care over what they look like in the wild. I say this because increasingly I'm stumbling across inbreds. The differences between a "pure breeds" and inbreds are subtle and could easily be overlooked.

Also if they don't pair up (female sa's can be very picky) they may just spend their time fighting.


My nomination for easily bred species would be a powder blue gourami, or any gourami species.
