you can get a treatment called interpet treatment number 9 for anti internal bacteria. this can really be effective at the early stages of dropsy.
as for using salt i would have thought epsom salt would be of more benefit as this draws fluid away from the body and salt doesnt. as you dont have a hospital tank then adding epsom salt to the tank wouldnt work. the interpet remedy could be added to the main tank as dropsy is i believe contagious.

Vixen how is your fish doing.

ok well one of u said it is ok to use table salt in an aquarium, that is so wrong!!!!!

table salt has many impuritties in it and is very dangerous in an aquarium

I thought when you gave a salt bath you were supposed to gradually add plain water to it over an hour or so's time. Because the salt draws all the water from the fishes cells...then putting it right back into plain water could damage the cells and cause death from cells bloating to quickly.

Salt baths seem very complicated imo.

I hope your fish is ok...I just lost one (not to dropsy though). Sucks to lose a fish you like alot.

shes still alive and now shes eating flakes as well as a few bloodworms.. she swims fine but the scales are still quite damaged like a soggy scab on your knee. some came away and left a red patch.

my other fish still have fungus which im treating with melafix. but my male has just got like a big fat white cap over his eye yet again and some of the older baby mollies look white when they go under the light..

I may be wrong, but i thought the main reason why table salt cannot be used is because of the anti-clumping chemical that is put in it. I also faintly remember something about iodine content in the salt, which is also supposed to be bad. There was a debate on this a long time ago i think, not sure what the final opinion on it was.

P.T.

Their is always debates over using household salt, I bought aquarium salt, but was told by an lfs that you can use normal salt, and a member from another forum who has been in the fish keeping hobby for 20 years and he says you can use normal salt, lfs just want to make money off you, I have been using household salt and had no negative results from it, its down to a fishkeeper to decidein the end.

Aquarium salt at Wal-mart is only like $2 at the most. And you get alot more then you'll use in a long time.

THis is what it says on there website luv.

Myxazin P is used as a broad spectrum bactericide for Fin Rot, Body Rot, ulcers, wounds, abrasions, sores, raised veins, blood streaks, "redness", Pop Eye, Cloudy Eye and other bacterial infections. Always check water quality parameters before attempting disease diagnosis. In addition, Myxazin P may be used as a prophylactic treatment (for disease prevention) in order to reduce the risk of disease, when new fish are introduced. Use daily for between 1-5 days, or until symptoms have cleared up

PROTOZIN is used for the control of all protozoan and fungal infections e.g Whitespot, Fungus, Neon Tetra Disease, Velvet, Costiasis and Trichodiniasis. You will require 4 separate applications to complete the course of treatment. By adding the treatment on days 1, 2 and 3 the product safely compounds in strength and does not burden the already stressed animals with a hard hitting formula. The final dose on day 6 is a preventative measure to try and ensure the organism does not re-occur. PROTOZIN's properties are highly effective at treating all its target organisms. Protozin is our best selling disease treatment world wide.
